The midfielder, unceremoniously, is on his way out of the Porcupine Warriors camp but what lessons must be learnt from his exit?

The Emmanuel Gyamfi saga at Asante Kotoko which has led to his contract termination by the club should be a case study to top footballers, if not all footballers, in the Ghana Premier League.

These days, a ‘top’ player playing a top club should have a strong PR team who are ready to work for him 24/7 and at times dictate which news should come on social media or get discussed on radio and TV.

You can’t just sit down and think that your performance on the field of play is enough to make you successful. Everyday, people including football administrators, journalists, supporters and even your enemies set ‘agendas’ so you must topple them.

There are players who have done worse things than what have been said about Gyamfi but little is known by the general public because of one reason or the other.

Gyamfi has been a key player for Kotoko in the last three seasons but because the narrative about him have always been negative, many supporters believe he should leave the club.

Employ people, if you don’t have close friends, who will work for you pro Bono, to manage your social media and news which will be out there for you.

Grow your social media presence so that you can also use your accounts to speak your side of the story.

I’ve been advising some of the players and forcefully started something for some of them. Today, they are forever grateful even though they didn’t see the need some years ago.

The players should remember that they are celebrities just like musicians Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy as well as politicians. These people have employed others to manage their presence on social media and elsewhere for them so that they can be relevant and always look good in the eyes of their followers and potential investors.
