Partey scores in Atletico Madrid’s home win over SD Huesca

The Ghanaian ended his goal drought with a wonderful strike as Los Rojiblancos picked their third La Liga win this season ahead of Madrid derby

Ghana forward Thomas Teye Partey broke his goal duck this season in Atletico Madrid’s 3-0 victory over SD Huesca in La Liga at Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday.

After falling behind Saul Niguez and Rodri in the pecking order this term, Partey was handed his third start of the season since the duo were rested purposely for the Madrid derby on Saturday.

Antoine Griezmann opened the scoring by the 16th minute when he connected an assist from Diego Costa, before Partey doubled the lead on 29th minute with a long-range effort to register his first goal of the season.

Four minutes later, Koke made it 3-0 after his pass to Angel Correa was initially flagged offside only to be awarded by a VAR decision.

Partey is now two goals shy of the total number of goals he scored last season in La Liga and four behind the overall goals in all competitions.

Atletico have moved to third on the log with 11 points, two points behind Barcelona who travel to Estadio Municipal de Butarque to face Leganes on Wednesday.
