Youth & Sports minister Ussif Mustapha reportedly rushed to hospital after trading blows in Parliament [Video]

The minister was caught in the heat of event and had his nose mask even torn as he exchanged blows with opponents in parliament

Ghana’s Youth and Sports minister Ussif Mustapha was reportedly rushed to the hospital following a fisfight in Parliament between some Members of Parliament on Monday night on the disagreement during the voting on government’s E-levy bill.

The fight ensued when the MPs were voting in a headcount to decide whether the E-levy bill should be accepted under a certificate of urgency or not.

However, the Minority members in parliament rose from their seats to prevent the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu, who was presiding over the House, from leaving his seat in his attempt to participate in the voting process.

Full details of what led to the fight

In their bid to prevent him, the majority got infuriated and quickly rushed to the Speaker’s table to and a chaos started.

According to the Minority MPs claims, Mr Osei-Owusu, while in the position of Speaker, does not have the right to take part of the voting process.

Before the sitting, the Majority had held a press conference stating the whereabouts of the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, was unknown.

However, since the bill had been laid before the House, the First Deputy Speaker took over proceedings in the House.

During deliberations, the Minority MPs challenged the decision by the Majority MPs to place the Bill under a certificate of urgency.

Although a voice vote was taken with the First Deputy Speaker ruling favouring the Majority, the NDC MPs called for a headcount instead.

Mr Joseph Osei-Owusu then decided to swap positions with the Second Deputy Speaker, who had voted to take part in the decision making.

However, the Minority MPs who disagreed with that position swiftly moved to the Speaker’s seat to stop the swap. Members of the Majority also moved to the Speaker’s seat, which led to the crash.

The Youth and Sports minister Ussif Mustapha was seen trading blows with some NDC members and had his nose mask torn. There was a slap from MP of Ashaiman Alfred Kwame Agbesi which landed on his face before he was dragged away by his colleagues.

Reports later revealed that the Youth and Sports minister has been sent to a hospital nearby for check up and treatment.

Emmanuel Gyamfi: I’ll not celebrate a goal against Kotoko because I may return in future

The midfielder has admitted that he may accept an opportunity to rejoin the Porcupine Warriors in the future

Former Asante Kotoko deputy captain Emmanuel Gyamfi has admitted that he is ready to play for Asante Kotoko in future despite the bizarre manner in which he left the club few months ago.

The 28-year-old joined left Kotoko ahead of the start of the 2021/22 season after he was alleged to have led mutiny in the dressing room.

Although, he was arguably one of Kotoko’s star performers last season, his contract was mutually terminated and he joined Aduana Stars as a free agent.

“I really loved Asante Kotoko but the club is not mine so I had to leave when the situation was different,” Gyamfi told Akoma FM.

“I am not intentionally playing well for Aduana Stars this season to prove something to Kotoko. I always play with all my heart for any club I’ve represented.

“My teammates at Aduana have been crucial to my fine form. Also, I think I had a good pre-season wen I arrived. I am scoring now because I am playing as an attacker while I was used predominantly as a midfielder in Kotoko. I wanted to play as an attacker in Kotoko but they denied me that opportunity”

Gyamfi, who is not eyeing for the goal king diadem despite his fine form, has further revealed that he would not celebrate a goal against Kotoko when he scores for Aduana out of respect.

“In a game against Kotoko, if the opportunity comes I will score but I will not celebrate the goal because it is a club that gave me the opportunity. If I do well here who knows I may return to the club one day,” he said.

“My focus is not to win the goal king but to help my team win the league.
We are focused on each match as it comes, we will win the league if the opportunity comes.”

He added: “I am not desperate for a Black Stars call up but if the opportunity comes i will grab it. I am not obsessed about that, i just want to focus on my game but if the call comes, i will be happy.”

After eight games, Gyamfi has proven his mettle for the Dormaa Ahenkro-based club as he has netted five times and provided three assists to help Aduana top the league log with 20 points, three points above Kotoko who sit in second place.

The youngster was on the score sheet for the first time since joining the Buccaneers in August

Ghanaian striker Kwame Peprah opened his goal scoring duties for Orlando Pirates in Premier Soccer League when the Buccaneers hosted Gallant on Monday

With Pirates down by the 12th minute through S. Ntshangase, Peprah stepped up his performance to cause a lot of troubles to the visitors’ defence.

The former King Faisal poster boy latched on to a pass from his teammate by the 24th minute and calmly slotted in his last ditch effort as Pirates levelled up.

Two minutes later, Peprah benefited from a poor defence by Gallant and in a similar fashion, sent his effort down the left bottom corner beyond the reach of goalkeeper Arubi.

It took Peprah 13 games before he could break his duck for Pirates.

Prosper Ogum Narteh explains why he is not happy with Asante Kotoko’s win over Legon Cities

The Porcupine Warriors boss insists he was not overly excited with his players performance despite ending their winless streak

Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum Narteh insists he was not happy with his side’s performance despite their 2-1 victory over Legon Cities at the Theater of Dreams in Dawu on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors, prior to the match, were without a win in three games but two goals from Cameroonian striker Etuoga Mbella Frank Thierry gave Kotoko the needed three points to push them to second position.

However, Ogum believes they could have done better especially how the strikers fluffed several chances that came their way.

“We had several chances after scoring the first goal which we could’ve made it game over but we squandered all of them,” Ogum said after the game as quoted by AshesGyamera.com.

“I’m going to talk to them about that situation. Sometimes you get the chances, you need to score again and make it game over so that you can relax and play your game.

“I’m not happy about the way we played especially after we conceded but before we conceded I think we were solid. We were marking, we were tackling and we were passing the ball well but because of the nature of the goal, we just went off.

“I think when he got the ball, it was a 1v1 situation and he was closer to my technical area so I encouraged him to go in with the ball which he did and gave the cross and Mbella just connected.

“It is something that we’ve been doing at training. We do it a lot so I’m happy something we did a training has paid off as we were able to get a goal out of it,” he added.

Kotoko sit second on the log with 17 points, three points behind Aduana Stars and they have one game in hand against Hearts of Oak.

Players abandon a league game in Germany after a Ghanaian teammate was RACIALLY abused

The youngster was racially abused several times while the game was ongoing and he had to leave the field together with his teammates

A Germany Liga 3 game between VfL Osnabruck and MSV Duisburg was abandoned last weekend after Ghanaian player Aaron Opoku was racially abused by a fan.

After only 33 minutes into the game, the 22-year-old heard the racial chants from the stands but a supporter and drew the attention of referee Nicolas Winter. Although, he was initially consoled and urged to continue playing the game, the Ghanaian opted to abandoned proceedings and headed down the tunnel as his teammates followed few minutes later.

With some of Opoku’s teammates leaving the field, the referee was left with no option than to march both teams into the dressing room as it became apparent that the racial attacks were not going to stop any moment.

Opoku’s teammates then refused to honour the remaining minutes of the fixture at the MSV Arena in solidarity with the player, leaving the match to be abandoned.

According to British outlet Dailymail, the fan was identified by stadium officials in Duisburg and was ejected from the ground, as the home fans chanted ‘Nazis Out’ as they joined in solidarity with Opoku, 22.

Duisburg’s stadium PA announcer then played the anti-fascist song ‘Schrei nach Liebe’ as they continued in displaying their disgust at what one of their own supporters told the German player, who is of Ghanaian descent.

A VfL spokesperson revealed that Opoku was mentally distraught by the alleged remark but praised Duisburg’s response to the incident.

VfL press officer Sebastian Ruther told Magenta Sport after Sunday’s game was suspended: ‘I only heard it from above, but it quickly became clear what it was all about.

‘It is clear that there were racist remarks and our player Aaron Opoku is mentally quite down. The important thing is that it’s about Aaron. It’s crucial for us that he’s not doing well.

‘There was incredible solidarity in the stadium, also from the Duisburg spectators.’

Osnabruck’s managing director Michael Welling revealed that his team have offered to replay the match and also mentioned Opoku’s poor mental state on Sunday afternoon.

‘The DFB (German Football Association) has to decide with its authorities what is right. We would like to play a replay or something like that.

‘Racism must not be part of our society and also not part of football. Aaron is very, very exhausted and that was also a reason to say that we are no longer players. We just don’t accept that as a club.’

The top hierarchy of MSV has apologizes for the incident, saying that “this is a no-go”. Both sporting directors are in discussion with the referee about how to proceed. Then the decision was made to abandon the game altogether.”

Opoku was born in Germany to Ghanaian parents.

Raddy Ovouka mutually terminates contract with Hearts of Oak- Reports

The Congolese defender has reportedly parted ways with the Phobians after Fifa gave them an ultimatum to release him to any club that comes forward for his services

Congo international Raddy Ovouka has reportedly terminated his contract with Hearts of Oak few days after he dragged the Ghana Premier League champions to Fifa.

The left-back after his deal with T.0 Mazembe fell through a couple of months ago, is believed to have secured a contract with an unnamed Moroccan club and although there are clauses in his contract with Hearts allows him to move, the Phobians top hierarchy were not ready to allow him.

As a result, they defender sent Hearts to Fifa to seek redress. A letter from Fifa to Hearts advised the Phobians to allow the player to leave whenever a club comes forward and meet his buyout clause in his contract.

This, coupled with a minor injury sustained against JS Souara, have forced Ovouka to absent himself from training since Hearts returned from Algeria after their elimination from the Caf Confederation Cup.

And according to a report filed by Adanse3 FM, the left-back has mutually parted ways with the Phobians and he is now ready to join any club of his choice.
