Augustine Okrah set to leave Bechem United despite incredible season

The forward’s future with the Hunters has become uncertain following offers from other clubs

Bechem United legend Augustine Okrah is likely to depart the club barely after six months of joining them, sources close to the player have revealed to AshesGyamera.com.

The 28-year-old has been an incredible addition to Bechem’s setup after joining them from Asante Kotoko at the start of the season and his consistent performances have gone unnoticed.

After 24 Premier League games, Okrah is ranked fourth on the goalscoring chart with ten goals and three assists and also boasts of three goals in the FA Cup.

Following weeks of speculations that Okrah may be on his way out of Bechem to join another club as a free agent, since he only signed a one-year deal, it now looks like the former Al Hilal and Al Merriekh star may be leaving soon after receiving offers from the Middle East, Morocco and South Africa.

After Okrah scored a brace and provided two assists on Wednesday to help Bechem United defeat Tamale City 4-2 to reach the FA Cup semifinals, a section of the supporters rushed to him to plead that he should at least stay until the end of the season.

Okrah won the Best Player and Goal King of 2013/14 season after notching in 16 goals and providing eight assists.

What will journalists who said I’m not fit for Kotoko say again? – Prosper Ogum fires back

The Porcupine Warriors boss has hit back at a section of the media who initially downplayed his capabilities when his appointment was made official

Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum Narteh has questioned the current stance of journalists who kicked against his appointment few months ago.

Then with WAFA, Ogum, who had led the Sogakope-based club to finish third last season, was seen as the ideal replacement to Mariano Baretto but a lot of journalists raised red flag insisting that he doesn’t have the experience to manage a big club.

However, after 24 matches, Kotoko are on the verge of winning the Premier League after stretching their lead at the top to eight points following the 1-0 victory over Hearts of Oak in the Super Clash on Sunday.

“I’m a development coach. I’m a youth coach so no wonder people like you and others with all due respect when I was coming, thought that a youth coach or a coach from academia doesn’t fit into Kotoko,” Ogum said as quoted by AshesGyamera.com.

“But I have come and I’m working so I don’t know how you’re going to tell the narrative again. I mean somebody who is a youth coach cannot coach. We brought in players from Division Two, players from nowhere and if you’ve actually followed football, it takes time for players to disabuse their beliefs and knowledge about how football is played and to accept a new one.

“But within this shortest period of time, we’ve been able to do that. Right from our first game against Dreams FC up to this time, it has never changed. I don’t want to take the credit, I want to give the credit to the players.

“They have been very obedient. They have been very humble and purposeful. In fact, the level of respect they give you me, I’m even amazed,” he added.

Ogum further explained why forward Stephen Amankona has been left out of his starting line up and believes the player must up his game.

“We have only one truth and then we have to say it as it is. I had a call from some countries like America, Canada, London after the game What’s wrong with the referee?”

“He came with a mindset. What’s he telling people? He was sitting like an angel during the pre-match as if he cannot talk but not knowing he was having a mindset whiles we were thinking about the beauty of the game. He knows what he was thinking about, and might even see us as a fools.”

Oscar Dela Hoya’s protege Ryan Garcia beats Ghana’s Emmanuel Tagoe in United States

The Ghanaian boxer was hoping to get back to winning ways and then challenge for a world title but things didn’t work as planned

In a bout fought at a catch-weight of 139-pounds, top lightweight contender Ryan Garcia (22-0, 18 KOs) was dominant in a twelve round unanimous decision win over an awkward Emmanuel Tagoe (32-2, 15 KOs).

The scores were 119-108, 119-108 and 118-109.

Garcia was fighting for the first time since January 2021 – and it was his first fight with new trainer Joe Goossen.

In the fight, Garcia came out firing and applying pressure on Tagoe. Tagoe was trying to stay at a distance, moving away and jabbing. Garcia seemed to have knockout intentions in the very first round.

During the second, a combination of punches rocked Tagoe and eventually sent him down. Tagoe beat the count and Garcia went right after him.

Tagoe weathered the storm. In the third, Garcia continued to stalk and throw on the defensive minded Tagoe. The fourth saw Tagoe take some chances, but Garcia continued to press and throw quick punches.

Tagoe was able to avoid getting hit clean and made Garcia miss numerous incoming shots.

More of the same in the next few rounds, with Garcia targeting the body more often. In the tenth, Tagoe was running out of steam and getting worn down as Garcia rocked him and was trying to take him out. Tagoe was game and did his best to hold and survive until the final bell.

Garcia is being managed by former World Champion Oscar Dela Hoya.
