The Man City boss lost his cool after seeing his left-back dismissed during the first half of the FA Cup tie at the DW Stadium
Pep Guardiola was involved in a heated exchange with Wigan manager Paul Cook in the tunnel at half-time in Manchester City’s FA Cup fifth round tie at Wigan.
The Catalan manager was enraged after seeing Fabian Delph sent off towards the end of the goalless first half at the DW Stadium on Monday night.
Pep Guardiola Paul Cook Manchester City Wigan Athletic
Fabian Delph Manchester City
Referee Anthony Taylor looked like he was going to book Delph for a challenge on Max Power as he had his yellow card in his hand, but brandished the red instead.
Guardiola remonstrated with Cook on the touchline, but television cameras showed that the incident continued down the tunnel.
The two were seen shouting each other before the City boss was pulled away from his counterpart, who then walked towards his team’s dressing room.
Guardiola didn not stop there, though, as he waited for the referee to appear before following the official.
Delph will receive a three-match ban for his wild slide on Power, meaning he will miss Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Arsenal as well as Premier League clashes against the Gunners and reigning champions Chelsea, unless there is a replay against Cook’s Wigan slotted in somewhere in between
The former Porcupine Warriors boss who was sacked in a bizarre manner, is still supporting them to eliminate the Congolese side in the Caf Confederation Cup
Sudan national team coach Zdravko Logarusic insists that Asante Kotoko will make it to the next stage of the Caf Confederation Cup ahead of their second leg game against CARA Brazzaville on Wednesday in Congo.
The former Gor Mahia boss was sacked last season by Kotoko after the club’s supporters invaded the training grounds because they disliked his 3-5-2 formation although the club was second behind Wafa at that time.
Kotoko have a slim advantage ahead of the game after winning the first leg 1-0 thanks to Yakubu Mohammed’s late effort, after Amos Frimpong, Baba Mahama and Sadick Adams missed three penalties within regulation time.
“I hope and believe Kotoko will produce good results in Brazzaville because they have to represent Ghana Football properly to show Ghana league is better than Congo league,” Logarusic told Oyerepa FM.
“I will be surprised if Kotoko fail to qualify on Wednesday against CARA Brazzaville because they have everything at their disposal and even the 1-0 win in the first leg isn’t a bad result because CARA will have to score twice and make sure they don’t concede,” he added.
AshesGyamera understands that Kotoko arrived in Brazzaville on Monday evening after making a transit in Togo during the early hours.
Aside midfielder Seth Opare, all other big names made the trip with coach Steve Polack expected to play a 4-5-1 formation and rely on counterattacks.
The Libyan side are currently lodging at the Golden Tulip Hotel and have insisted never to travel to Dormaa Ahenkro unless there’s a Caf intervention
Al Tahady have sent a petition to Caf and Fifa to compel Aduana Stars officials to provide them with an aircraft to Dormaa Ahenkro on Tuesday or move the match venue to Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi ahead of the second leg of Caf Champions League preliminary round on Wednesday.
Al Tahady who won the first leg 1-0 in Cairo, Egypt last week, arrived in Ghana on Friday and travelled by bus to Kumasi but surprisingly alleged they spent seven hours instead of the usual five hours.
However, with Dormaa Ahenkro lacking any three or four star hotel, the Ghana Premier League champions planned to host Tahady’s contingent at Eusbett hotel in Sunyani, the capital of Brong Ahafo region and bus the entire team to the match venue a day or several hours before kickoff but the North African club have rejected the arrangements.
They insist traveling from Kumasi to Dormaa Ahenkro by road is 202km, which is more than the 200km stipulated in Caf’s rules, hence, have requested for a flight to the venue or opt not to honour the game although there are no airport available at the city.
“We spent seven hours from Accra to Kumasi by road but this was not what they told us initially. We are very tired and won’t accept any further arrangement by road,” Dr Khalid Kwafi, president of Al Tahady told Oyerepa FM.
“The distance by road from Accra to Kumasi to Dormaa Ahenkro is more than 300 kilometres. This wasn’t what Aduana told us so it doesn’t make up and under no circumstance must we go to Dormaa to play the match.
“Therefore, I have sent a complaint to FIFA, CAF and Ghana FA so we are waiting for them. I have told [Ghana FA secretary] Alex Asante about it and waiting for the Libyan Ambassador also. There’s no way we can lose this points.
He added: “Should this happen ,we will sue CAF and Aduana I mean it. Caf’s regulations stipulates that if the playground away from the capital is more than 200 kilometers the match will be played in the capital so tell them I am not playing the game.I have told the Libyan FA about it or we compromise to play in Kumasi.”
However, AshesGyamera understands that Aduana Stars top hierarchy are still working around the clock to find a solution to the concerns raised by the Libyan side before the close of the day.
