Asante Kotoko defender Nettey handed late Black Stars call up ahead of Afcon qualifiers

The defender has become the fourth player to be handed a late call to join the Black Stars ahead of the double header against Sudan

Asante Kotoko defender Christopher Nettey has been handed the opportunity to join the Black Stars camp for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan on Thursday.

Following a brilliant campaign with Kotoko last season, the 22-year-old has been deemed the perfect replacement for Columbus Crew defender Harrison Afful after he failed to make the trip. Nettey will be the second player from Kotoko to join the Black Stars alongside goalkeeper Razak Abalora.

Bechem United young striker Prince Adu Kwabena became the first player to be called to the senior national team camp before midfielders Afriyie Acquah and Majeed Ashimeru as well as defender Joseph Attamah Larweh got a late call up.

AshesGyamera.com understands that Ashanti Gold full-back Kwadwo Amoako could also join the Black Stars on Monday.

Ghana will host Sudan on November 12 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium for the first leg before they trek to Khartoum five days later for the return fixture.

Afriyie Acquah promises to play for Asante Kotoko; backs Asamoah Gyan to excel in GPL

The midfielder has heaped praise on the former Black Stars captain following his decision to return to local football and he has revealed his ambition to play also play for Kotoko

Ghana midfielder Afriyie Acquah has lauded Asamoah Gyan’s decision to return to Ghana Premier League after almost two decades since he left the shores to ply his trade in Europe.

Gyan signed a deal with Legon Cities FC worth close to $1 million and Acquah, who now plays with Turkish Super Lig side Yeni Malatyaspor, believes it is possible for him to replicate that feat in the future.

“I was born into a family that support B.A United but if I’m ready to return to play in Ghana and they are not in the top-flight, I will rather join Asante Kotoko since they are the club I also long and dream to feature for before retiring,” Acquah told SportsWorldGhana.com.

“When I heard that Gyan has joined the Ghana Premier League again I was so happy for him because I think this is going to help make the league more interesting. When you look at the career of Gyan he has done amazing things and he comes to the league with a huge personality.”

“This is also my dream. One day, when I feel that I have had enough of European football I want to come and play in Ghana Premier League and have a feel of it before I call time on my football career.

“As you know I never played in the Ghana Premier League or even the Division One and so it is my dream to also do what Gyan has done in the future. This is  my dream and I congratulate Gyan and wish him all the best at his new club,” he added.

Acquah was handed a late call up by C.K Akonnor ahead of the Black Stars’ double header against Sudan in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Samatex 2-2 Asante Kotoko: Kwame Poku’s brace save Porcupine Warriors from defeat in pre-season

The Porcupine Warriors could not make it two wins in a row as they buckled up against Samatex in a friendly on Sunday

Asante Kotoko recorded a 2-2 stalemate in their last pre-season friendly against Division One side Samatex on Sunday in Samraboi.
After the 6-1 annihilation of Achiken FC in midweek, Maxwell Konadu’s charges failed to replicate that feat in the Western region.

Kwame Poku gave Kotoko the lead by the 18th minute after a quick counterattack football from the Porcupine Warriors but Samartex made it even four minutes later. The hosts’ striker Benjamin Yorke connected a pass from his teammate and fired past goalkeeper Kwame Baah.

Kotoko’s woes in the first half compounded on the 28th minute when Kwame Baah committed a penalty after he brought down a Samatex player. George Amonoo stepped up and sent the ball beyond the reach of Baah to put Samatex in front for the first time in the game.

After the break, Evans Adomako and Patrick Asmah came on for Augustine Okrah and Imoro Ibrahim respectively and that substitutions lifted Kotoko’s play in attack.

On the 58th minute, Kwame Poku calmly controlled a pass from a teammate and scored his second goal of the day to make it 2-2. The goal means that Poku has scored four goals within four days for Kotoko and six in all pre-season games.

Kwame Baah made a wonderful save by the 68th minute after coming one-on-one with a Samatex player to prevent Kotoko from recording their first defeat in pre-season.

They will open their Ghana Premier League campaign with a home game against Techiman Eleven Wonders before a trip to Golden City Park to face Berekum Chelsea.

Asante Kotoko XI vs. Samartex:

Kwame Baah (GK), Samuel Frimpong, Imoro Ibrahim, Mubarik Yussif, Wahab Adams, Kwame Adom Frimpong, Emmanuel Keyekeh, Latif Abdul Anabila, Emmanuel Gyamfi, Augustine Okrah, Kwame Opoku

The striker has announced his decision to quit the Black Stars after he was snubbed by C.K Akonnor ahead of the Afcon qualifiers next week

Ghana striker Bernard Mensah has officially announced his decision to temporarily retire from international duties with the Black Stars on Sunday.

The 26-year-old who currently plays for Turkish giants Besiktas posted on Twitter that he would wish to concentrate on club football after carefully thinking about how he wants to mould his future as a footballer.

Although, Mensah who is on loan at Besiktas from Kayserispor, isn’t a poster boy for the Black star like former teammate Asamoah Gyan, he has played six times for Ghana and boasts of one goal.

He was among the 23 players that were called for the international friendly games against Mali and Qatar in October but was overlooked by Akonnor for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan on November 12 and 17 in Cape Coast and Khartoum respectively.

Qualities Muslim women should look out for before getting married

By: Tophic Sienu Kadir

This is for our single Sisters but brothers can learn to emulate these qualities for Allah sake.

Every Muslim woman who seeks marriage in Islam should be aware that you are seeking a person not only to be a husband, friend, lover, partner, and all those good things; but you are seeking someone to be the imam(leader) of your home and family for Allah sake.

Yes, you want him to be a kind, generous, patient, good natured, healthy, attractive (to you), and Allah –fearing husband. Nevertheless, as a woman, you need to be clear about what you really want and seek in a marriage.

Many sisters say they want one thing but when they get it, it turns out that it’s not what they really wanted. Don’t say you want Allah-fearing, pious man, and then oppose him when he wants to direct you and your kids to piety.

If a woman wants a man who has these good qualities then she should seek that type of man, and not be overtaken by his looks, his car, his walk or his talk.

If a woman seeks a husband who does not have the qualities of a good man, then she will get a joker. The first thing to check about a potential spouse is his eemaan, and if you check his eemaan, make sure that you check yours too. You are looking for a man who will aid you to paradise, this earth sustenance is only a bonus.

If you are a Muslim woman who does not particularly want to be married to a religious man, or a man who prays, or enjoins you to pray, pay zakaat, fasts and enjoins you to fast, and observes a healthy Islamic lifestyle etc, then that is your choice.

This is not about blaming this or that person for how they want to live and what they consider important.

Nevertheless, keep it real sisters, if you are not really trying to live the Islamic lifestyle as a wife and a woman, then don’t waste the time of a brother who is serious about this affair of ours as Muslims, and you need to be clear with yourself about that.

Likewise, if you as a Muslim woman know that you want to live a serious and sober Islamic lifestyle, and raise your children accordingly, then don’t be beguiled by a brother who is handsome, talks good, drives a nice car, wears designer clothes, but lacks the substance that you are seeking.

With that in mind, dont miss my afternoon and evening reminders today for some things that you should look for in a real Muslim man. We ask Allah to guide our sisters in making the right choices. Aameen.

Jamie Leweling rejects Black Stars call up; chance for Emmanuel Gyasi and Brain Brobbey to seize

The youngster is reported to have said he is unwilling to play for the West African country since he is unsure of his future as he continues to eye a chance with Germany

German-born striker of Ghanaian descent Jamie Leweling has turned down the opportunity to represent Ghana on the international level despite being offered a golden opportunity.

The 19-year-old, who currently plies his trade with German Bundesliga 2 side Greuther Furth, was a surprise inclusion in Ghana’s 23-man squad named by head coach C.K Akonnor ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan.

Although, Ghana FA president Kurt Okraku defended the decision and revealed that it was the new technical director who recommended his inclusion, the youngster is not ready to play for Ghana despite it being the country of his biological father.

“The boy (Jamie Leweling) can’t honour the call up because it will be very complicated if he wants to switch back to represent Germany in any category of the national team if things don’t go well for him with Ghana,” a source told GHANAsoccernet.com

“Jamie won’t come to Ghana because after further explanation of issues surrounding his call-up, he has decided not to play for Ghana now due to several complications which are both sporting and personal,” the source added.

The decision means that Akonnor would have to call another player to fill the void and the star could fall on Spezia Calcio forward Emmanuel Gyasi who has played every single game this season in the Serie A.

Also, Ajax Amsterdam young striker Brain Brobbey as well as Elton Acolatse could be handed the opportunity since the former recently declared his readiness to play for Ghana.

The Black Stars will face Sudan in the first leg of the qualifiers on November 12 the Cape Coast Sports Stadium before they travel to Khartoum for the return fixture five days later.
