You’ll REGRET it if you reject 1teacher-1laptop – Angel Carbonu to teachers

Amidst concerns raised by teachers across the country on how substandard laptops are being forced on them, the NAGRAT chief insists its members should accept the laptops and give them out to their family members even if they don’t personally need them

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has warned its members across the country that they stand disadvantaged if they reject the laptops being provided to them by government under the One Teacher-One Laptop programme.

According to NAGRAT, the laptops form part of the measures being rolled out by the Ministry of Education to better-motivate teachers to do a lot more for the education sector.

NAGRAT is of the view that teachers who refuse to take the laptops because of the issues surrounding their procurement will later regret their decision.

The president of NAGRAT, Mr Angel Carbonu, said the laptops are to unearth the professionalism in teachers across the country.

He was of the view that this is a good deal from the government to all teachers.

Mr Carbonu said teachers stand to lose a great deal if they refuse to take the laptops because the government is bearing a major portion of the price.

He said the laptops are a motivator rather than a burden on the teachers.

Mr Carbonu made this comment in an interview on Accra-based Neat FM on Wednesday, 8 December 2021.

In his view, having the laptops in this teacher licensure dispensation would do the teachers a lot of good.

“Teachers who feel they already have laptops should still take it and give it out to their family members because the product is one of the subsidised freebies from the government to teachers. Don’t reject it or you’ll badly regret the action in future,” he said

Asante Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah and others meet StarTimes to settle differences

The Porcupine Warriors top hierarchy held a meeting with the Ghana Premier League television right owners on Thursday to thrash out several issues

Management members of Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko held a successful meeting with the top hierarchy of Chinese television company StarTimes on Thursday in Accra.

The meeting became necessary after a section of Kotoko fans accused StarTimes of bias way of telecasting their games.
Some of the supporters believe that StarTimes deliberately prevent viewers from watching replays of events that favour their club but they are quick to repeat those that go against them.

Some supporters have even accused StarTimes of conniving with referee Nunoo who officiated the Kumasi derby against King Faisal as he overturned a penalty he awarded Kotoko.

Reports were initially rife that fourth referee Daniel Laryea was prompted by some crew members of StarTimes that he should advise the centre referee to rescind his decision to award Kotoko a penalty since it was a wrong call.

Moreover, Kotoko chief executive officer Nana Yaw Amponsah has constantly argued that it is inappropriate for all clubs to equally share the television money since games involving Kotoko and Hearts are always televised live.

“Management today held a special dialogue meeting with the management of StarTimes, official broadcasters of the #GPL, to discuss matters of mutual concern,” a club statement read.

“Both parties laid bare their concerns and resolved to work harmoniously for the betterment of Ghana football.

“We entreat all our fans to remain calm and be rest assured that Management will always strive for the best interest of our dear club,” the statement added.

Kotoko’s matchday seven fixture against bitter rivals Hearts of Oak which would have been played over the weekend has been postponed since the latter is yet to arrive in the country after participating in the Caf Confederation Cup playoffs.

Hearts were thrashed 4-0 by Algerian side JS Saoura and got eliminated 4-2 on aggregate.

The Porcupine Warriors have vehemently denied reports that they have secured a bank loan to purchase a new bus

Asante Kotoko director of communications David Obeng Nyarko has denied reports that the club have secured a bank loan to purchase a new bus.

Reports were rife earlier this week that Kotoko had taken a Ghç1.3 million loan from an unnamed bank to purchase a new bus since the one the players currently use is not in a good shape.

Kotoko currently top the league log with 13 points despite losing the Kumasi derby against King Faisal last weekend.

Kotoko’s game against Hearts of Oak on matchday seven has been rescheduled due to the latter’s participation in Caf inter-club competitions. The Phobians faced Algerian side JS Saoura in the play off of Caf Confederation Cup.

POPE SAYS SEX OUTSIDE MARRIAGE IS ‘NOT THE MOST SERIOUS SIN’

The Catholic Pope has suggested that cheating on your wife or husband isn’t the greatest of sins that man will commit

Pope Francis, leader of the Catholic Church, has said sex outside of marriage is not the “most serious” sin.

During a question and answer session with reporters on a flight back to Italy from Greece on Monday, the Pope said: “Sins of the flesh are not the most serious.”

Instead, he said that pride and hatred were “the most serious” of sins.

The Pope was also asked about the resignation of the Archbishop of Paris, Michel Aupetit, who offered to step down earlier this month after a French magazine claimed he had engaged in an intimate relationship with a woman.

Traditionally, Archbishops and higher members of the Catholic Church follow clerical celibacy, which means they abstain from sex.

The Archbishop denied the affair, and said: “I poorly handled the situation with a person who was in contact many times with me.”

The Pope, who accepted the Archbishop’s resignation, said “it was a failing on his part, a failing against the sixth commandment, but not a total one.”

The sixth commandment says “you shall not commit adultery”, which applies to people having sex outside of their marriages but the Pope suggested it could apply to priests who don’t stay celibate.

During the flight, the Pope said he removed the Archbishop due to “gossip”.

“We’re all sinners. When the gossip grows and grows and removes someone’s good name, he cannot govern,” he said.

“This is an injustice. That’s why I accepted the resignation of Aupetit: not on the altar of truth but on the altar of hypocrisy.”

During his visit to Greece, the Pope encouraged young people not be to tempted by the consumerist “sirens” of today.

He explained: “Today’s sirens want to charm you with seductive and insistent messages that focus on easy gains, the false needs of consumerism, the cult of physical wellness, of entertainment at all costs,” he said. “All these are like fireworks: they flare up for a moment, but then turn to smoke in the air.”

Pictures: Hearts of Oak train in Algiers as they wait for flight to travel to Ghana

The Phobians have began to fine tune in the capital city of Algeria after their shambolic performance in the acaf inter-club competitions

Ghana Premier League champions Hearts of Oak returned to training far away in Algeria after arriving in the capital city of Algiers.

The Phobians suffered a 4-0 humiliating results against JS Souara in the second leg of the Caf Confederation Cup playoffs last Sunday. The results meant that Hearts have bow out of the competition on a 4-2 aggregate scoreline.

However, despite travelling from Bechar through Oran to Algeria after the game, they are made to wait until Wednesday before they get a flight back to Ghana.

Even that, the Phobians will have to make a transit in Istanbul, Turkey on Thursday afternoon before they take another flight to Cote D’Ivoire on Friday morning.

They are expected to touch down in Ghana on Friday afternoon.

As a result, Hearts of Oak game against Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League has been postponed until further notice by Ghana Football Association.

Upon their arrival, Hearts will shift their attention to Ghana Premier League and they are expected to face Berekum Chelsea on Wednesday December 15 at the Accra Sports Stadium before they head to battle Elmina Sharks at the Nduom Sports Stadium on Sunday December 18.

Ghana Football Association is expected to communicate the dates for their games against Medeama and Asante Kotoko which were postponed due to their participation in the Cat Confederation Cup.

Head coach Samuel Boadu who is currently under intense pressure, will obviously be looking for a reaction from his players and should they fail to find their mojo back, the club may be forced to sack him and appoint a new manager.

GOIL to reduce petrol prices on Tuesday across the country; new price will shock you

The country’s oil company will on Tuesday reduce the price of petrol across at all their various points of sale following a demonstration by drivers

The Chairman of Parliament’s Committee on Transport Kennedy Osei Nyarko has revealed that GOIL is expected to reduce fuel prices by 15 pesewas per litre.

According to Osei Nyarko, the decision was taken by government following the demands of commercial drivers who embarked on a sit-down strike over hikes in fuel prices across the country on Monday.

A litre of fuel which is sold at GHS6.85 is expected to be reviewed downwards to GHS6.70 effective December 7, 2021.

Speaking on PM Express Monday, Mr Nyarko was hopeful that the move will force other Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to also reduce their prices.

“I will not be surprised they [GOIL] will be taking about 15 pesewas per litre each off the products. That’s the information that I’m getting. I will not be surprised it will drop to about GHS6.70 tomorrow morning,” he said.

Government’s directive follows a marathon meeting with the transport operators at the Presidency which lasted for about 4 hours.

The Ghana Private Roads and Transport Union (GPRTU) wants the government to scrap some taxes on petroleum products in order for fuel prices to be reduced at the pumps.

The appeal to scrap the taxes on petroleum products is estimated to reduce fuel prices by 25.44 percentage points; bearing in mind that fuel prices, between January and December 2021, have witnessed an astronomical rise of 39.92 percent.

Their demands appeared not to have been satisfied in the 2022 Budget currently under consideration in Parliament.

The agitated drivers went on to lay down their tools, leaving many commuters who use public transport to and from their various destinations stranded.

After failed attempts to secure a vehicle, some commuters say they were left with no other alternative than to stay off work.

In a move to quell the situation, the transport operators suspended their industrial action at the behest of the government in order for a negotiation to take place.

The GPRTU spokesperson, Abass Imoro also revealed to Evans Mensah that the government promised to remove some petroleum taxes in the 2022 mid-year budget.

These outcomes from the meeting the Unions have welcomed and appealed to the government to keep to its end of the bargain to bring relief to both commercial drivers and commuters.
