Orlando Pirates release out of favour goalkeeper Richard Ofori

The Buccaneers shot-stopper will have to look elsewhere for game time after he was deemed surplus to requirements ahead of next season

Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori has been released by South African giants Orlando Pirates.

The 30-year-old, who joined Pirates from Maritzburg in 2020, was released alongside three other players including Erasmus Kermit, Siyabonga Mpontshane and Thabang Monare.

“As the football season draws to a close, we not only mark the end of our campaign but also bid farewell to some of our esteemed players,” the club’s official statement read.

“Orlando Pirates can confirm that Richard Ofori, Siyabonga Mpontshane, Thabang Monare and Kermit Erasmus will be leaving us when their respective contracts come to an end on June 30,” the statement added.

Ofori, prior to this unfortunate news, had lost his place in Ghana’s national team following his schoolboy’s mistakes at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations staged in Côte d’Ivoire in January this year.
