The Zimbabwe interim boss has named his squad that he hopes can shock the Black Stars next week

Zimbabwe interim coach Norman Mapeza has announced a strong squad to face Ghana in the double header of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against scheduled for October 9 and October 12.

The Black Stars will play their first game under new coach Milovan Rajevac at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on October 9 before they travel to Harare for the return fixture four days later.

Headlining the squad include Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Khamat Billiat and Marvelous Nakamba of Aston Villa fame.

Also, Blessing Surupinda and Teenage Hadebe, as well as Knowledge Musona have been called for the crucial encounter.

Ghana stand the chance of losing several key players in the return fixture since Zimbabwe is on the red list of United Kingdom for higher cases of COVID-19.

As a result, any player in Ghana’s squad that play in England will be quarantined for two weeks when he return to his club side should he travel to Zimbabwe for the game. This means that Jordan Ayew, Baba Rahman, Thomas Partey, Andy Yiadom and Daniel Amartey may miss the game in Harare.

This was the same situation which depleted Ghana’s squad and gave South Africa the advantage last month.

Zimbabwe, just like Ghana, recently sacked their coach Zdravko Lugarosic after the Croatian picked only one win in eleven games.

Ghana’s coach Charles Kwablah Akonnor who also started the qualifiers have been sacked after he picked only four wins in ten games. This came after the painful defeat to South Africa in Johannesburg last month as Bafana Bafana now top Group G of the qualifiers.
