The debutants left it late as they shocked Medeama with a wonderful equaliser deep in additional time
Medeama shared the spoils 1-1 with Bibiani Gold Stars in the outstanding matchday two fixture in Ghana Premier League at the Akoon Park on Tuesday.
A late effort from Burkina Faso international Amed ‘Simba’ Toure was all that the host needed to record their first victory of the campaign but Joshua Akoto broke there hearts with another late equaliser.
Following the 4-0 drubbing Medeama suffered on opening day against Bechem United, head coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu made changes in his squad.
The decision seemed to have worked as Medeama created some decent chances but they failed to find the back of the net.
Zakaria Mumuni combined beautifully with Prince Opoku Agyemang but the latter surprisingly squandered the chance by the 30th minute.
Opoku also failed to direct his header on target few minutes later after he met a decisive cross.
After the break, Amed was brought on and his presence added a bite to the Medeama’s attack.
However, they still failed to find an opening in Gold Stars defence.
Toure finally met a cross from his teammate and the Burkinabé sent in a wonderful bicycle kick to score the opening goal by the 81st minute.
The goal marked his 18th effort in his last 36 top-flight appearances.
Deep in additional time, Joshua Akoto scored the equaliser against the run of play to silence the vociferous home supporters and rather send the few travelling supporters into a wild jubilation.
Gold Stars have now moved to sixth sixth position with four points after two games while Medeama are languishing at the bottom with just a point.
Gold Stars will welcome table toppers Asante Kotoko to the Dun’s Park in Bibiani on Friday.
