The Porcupine Warriors boss has added his voice to the controversial penalty that was awarded against his charges last weekend

Asante Kotoko coach Dr. Prosper Ogum Narteh has insisted that referee Jones Akubiem was wrong to have awarded a penalty against his side in the game with Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park on Saturday.

The Porcupine Warriors shared the spoils goalless with Chelsea but they had to rely on goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim to to salvage the point.

Very late in the game, referee Akubiem awarded a penalty to Chelsea after insisting that Kofi Owusu’s shot was blocked by Yussif Mubarik’s hand in the box.

However, Stephen Anokye Badu’s resulting kick from the spot was perfectly saved by Danlad.

“You [journalist] have said it that the ball hit the stomach so if you are telling me this, then it means my thoughts are right because you had the opportunity to watch the replay,” Ogum said after the game.

“So if you are telling me that the ball hit the stomach, then it means it was never a penalty. You are telling me so I’m basing on what you said,”

Ogum also heaped praise on Danlad and revealed that he spoke to the young shot-stopper before the penalty was taken.

“I was very confident. I you saw me, I called Danlad and spoke to him. I told him to keep his calm, watch the ball and pick his spot and that was exactly what he did to save the penalty. He was good and saved us from defeat,” he said.

Kotoko despite the stalemate with Chelsea are still leading the Premier League table with 27 points, three points above Aduana Stars who also shared the spoils 1-1 with Accra Lions.

Kotoko have one outstanding game against rivals Hearts of Oak and it has been scheduled for February 20 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
