Bechem United 1-0 Aduana Stars: Augustine Okrah returns in a grand style with a wonderful goal

The midfielder made a huge statement this weekend after he was surprisingly dropped from the Black Stars squad

Okrah brushed aside the disappointment he suffered in mid-week after he was dropped from the Black Stars squad that drew 1-1 with Central Africa Republic in 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The 28-year-old connected a pass from his teammate and lashed it perfectly beyond the reach of Aduana goalkeeper by the 14th minute.

He was played through five minutes later to double his account but his effort was blocked.

After the break, Okrah saw his free-kick hitting the human wall before the rebound was saved by the goalkeeper.

Breaking News: Otto Addo hands Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim late call up

The Porcupine Warriors shot-stopper will join the Black Stars ahead of the four-nation tournament to be staged in Japan

Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim has been handed a late call up to replace Richard Ofori ahead of Black Stars’ participation in the four-nation tournament to be held in Japan between June 10-14.

Ofori is out due to injury and joins Antoine Semenyo who also suffered a knock against Madagascar in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

As a result, Danlad will join the Black Stars after the game against Central Africa Republic and then travel to Japan with the squad.

Meanwhile, it is uncertain that Bechem United forward Augustine Okrah and Hearts of Oak youngster Daniel Afriyie Barnieh will be recalled to join the team after they were left behind on Friday enroute to Angola for the Afcon qualifier.

AshesGyamera will update you on all the latest news from the Black Stars camp.

SHOCKING: Okrah & Afriyie Barnieh were used as defenders at Black Stars training; Why Otto Addo dropped GPL stars

The duo were very hopeful of getting the chance to impress the technical team but Otto Addo was never ready for them

Bechem United forward Augustine Okrah and Hearts of Oak striker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh could not get the chance to impress Ghana coach Otto Addo during their stints with the Black Stars, AshesGyamera.com can confirm.

The duo were given call ups to join the Black Stars ahead of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Central Africa Republic as well as a four-nation tournament in Japan after a wonderful season in Ghana Premier League.

However, upon arriving at the national team’s camp, there were several indications that greeted them and suggested that their presence weren’t needed by technical team. The Ghana Premier League stars upon arriving in camp were given jersey numbers of senior team players who were excused from the game due to injuries.

Although, there were many vacant jerseys, Okrah was given jersey number 5 which is always worn by Arsenal midfielder Thomas Teye Partey while Barnieh used number 23 predominantly worn in recent times by Strasbourg defender Alexander Djiku and with the duo coming back very soon, Okrah and Barnieh were obviously just caretakers.

That wasn’t all, the duo were not made to train with other Black Stars players at their usual positions which could’ve given the coaches a good and close view of their talents. Otto Addo did not have any plans for them and therefore used Okrah and Barnieh as left full-backs or defensive midfielders since he wanted to deploy different tactics with the players he had in mind.

AshesGyamera.com can confirm that Otto Addo held a meeting with the two players after they were dropped en route to the game against Central Africa Republic and complained about their attitudes in camp.

Firstly, our sources have revealed he complained that Okrah was always quiet in camp and would only talk when he is at the training ground which makes him different from the others. Although, the player argued that is his nature, Addo felt it was not what he was expected from him.

Also, Otto Addo complained extensively about Barnieh. The Black Stars gaffer was not happy with how Barnieh was always seen cracking jokes with some senior players.

Shockingly, both Okrah and Barnieh had the jerseys they trained with while at the Black Stars camp taken away from them and could only go home with a pair of sneakers which was given to them while in camp.

The players had to make their own arrangements to leave the team’s hotel since no arrangements were made for them. Okrah, in particular, had to book a flight back to Kumasi before he continued with a bus to Bechem through the help of Bechem United owner Kingsley Owusu Acheaw ‘Agama’.

Meanwhile, Otto Addo has settled on 25 players for the match against Central African Republic on Sunday with Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo dropped due to a knock he picked up against Madagascar on Wednesday.

Tariq Lamptey and father land in Ghana to watch Black Stars game & meet Otto Addo

The former Chelsea youth star has arrived in the country to hold talks with the Black Stars technical team ahead of a possible nationality switch

Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey has arrived in Ghana ahead of a much anticipated meeting with Ghana Football Association top hierarchy and Black Stars technical team, AshesGyamera.com understands.

The 26-year-old touched down in Ghana with his father and was welcomed by some nuclear and extended family members.

He is expected to meet Ghana FA president Kurt Okraku and Black Stars coach Otto Addo in a final meeting before Ghana host Madagascar in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar on Wednesday in Cape Coast.

Lamptey is believed to have opted to play for Ghana where his parents come from since he has little chance of representing England at the senior level.

The Three Lions currently have Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James, Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, James Justin, Kyle Walker-Peters, Tino Livramento among others in the right back position.

Therefore, Lamptey asked England U21 coach to drop him from the squad last week ahead of a game since he wants to weigh the option on playing for Ghana.

“He’s asked to be left out of the squad for a bit of head space. He’s not switched, it’s not cemented or anything like that,” England U21 boss Lee Carsely said in an interview.

“But he’s had an approach (from Ghana), we have to respect that.

“We’ve made it clear how important we see him to us. I know the seniors have as well.

“It’s not something that we’ve given up on. Tariq is fully aware of how important we see him.”

Carsley added: “I’ve definitely got to give him a bit of space now. We’ve got a squad of players there that are desperate to play for England.

“I wouldn’t want to leave one out to bring one in that’s unsure, I don’t think that’s fair.

“But the opposite to that is Tariq is a big player for us and we see a real future for him within the pathway, so I’ll definitely be going back to him.

“He would be a big loss. We do have some really good right-backs but that doesn’t mean we should become blasé about our players.

“We see Tariq as an important player for not potentially only the senior team but the 21s as well.”

Last season in the Premier League, Lamptey made 30 appearances and recorded two assists for Brighton.
