The Phobians will be making a comeback to the continent’s top competition as they face a club from Guinea in the preliminary stages

Ghana Premier League champions Hearts of Oak have been handed Guinean side CI Kamsar of Guinea in the preliminary round of the 2021/22 season Caf Champions League, following a draw held in Cairo, Egypt on Friday, AshesGyamera.com can confirm.

The Phobians are making a return to the competition for the first time since 2015 as they have been in the hiatus following a poor run in Ghana Premier League.

Hearts, however, were on top form last season as they emerged winners of Ghana’s top-flight after appointing four different coaches.

The first leg is expected to be played on the weekend of September 10-12 at the Stade de I’Amitie in Kamsar in Guinea, while the return fixture comes on a week later at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The winner between Hearts of Oak and CI Kamsar of Guinea will face either Wydad Athletic Club from Morocco in the first round for a place in the group stages.

In the Confederation Cup, there will be no Ghanaian representatives since Asante Kotoko and Medeama turned down the opportunity to play citing lack of preparations and financial difficulties as the main reasons.

Hearts were winners of the Champions League in 2000 and went on to win the Super Cup. Their last continental trophy came in 2003 when they won the maiden edition of the Caf Confederation Cup.
