The Ghanaian was a star performer for Spezia as they finally beat the drop with one game to spare
Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Gyasi was on target when Spezia Calcio defeated Udinese Calcio 3-2 away to avoid relegation in Serie A on Saturday.
With two games to end the season, Spezia were in a dire need of three points to secure their place in Serie A for the second time in a row.
Nahuel Molina gave Udinese the lead in the game after 26 minutes when he connected an assist from Iyenoma Udogie.
However, Spezia pulled even nine minutes later through Daniele Verde. The skillful midfielder latched on to a Salvador Ferrer’s pass and slotted in his equaliser.
Gyasi scored on the stroke of additional time in the first half to send Spezia in front for the first time in the cagey encounter.
After the break, Giulio Maggiore made it 3-1 for Spezia and they held on to record a famous away victory in the Serie A.
Gyasi lasted 84 minutes before he was substituted for. The Ghana international had 44 touches of the ball and completed 73.3 per cent of accurate passes.
He had two shots off target and blocked one key shot by Udinese. He won six duels out of the nine he went in for and committed one foul while he suffered four fouls.
Ahead of the last round of matches in Serie A next weekend, Spezia have moved up to 15th on the log with 36 points, seven points above safety.
