‘It’s good King Faisal are not begging for points this season,” Nana Yaw Amponsah jabs Alhaji Grusah

The Porcupine Warriors chief has aimed a dig at his city rivals following their impressive start to the season

Asante Kotoko chief executive officer Nana Yaw Amponsah has indirectly aimed a dig at city rivals King Faisal following their impressive start to the new Ghana Premier League season.

Faisal struggled throughout last season and needed a point on final day against Liberty Professionals at Sogakope before they could avoid relegation.

The club’s founder and owner Alhaji Grusah later lambasted Kotoko and accused of them of masterminding their struggles as they failed to allow King Faisal to defeat them.

“We went to see a chief for him to talk to Kotoko so that they do something to help us when we were about playing them(Kotoko) in Obuasi,” Grusah told Fox FM

“We wanted them to help us but they refused. I had even talked to Nana Yaw Amponsah, the Kotoko CEO and he said he cannot do anything about it for me. The chief too did not do anything about it for us,” he added.

However, Faisal have been in good form this season and have even defeated Kotoko twice – both in league and FA Cup – and currently sit second on the league log, something which Nana Yaw Amponsah feels is the right thing to promote fairness in the game.

“I always want to see clubs from Asanteman progressing so I’m elated for King Faisal’s progress this season,” Amponsah said.

“Instead of begging for points, they (King Faisal) are now fighting for their points and I’m happy with that. This brings fairness in the game,” he added.

Ex-Asante Kotoko defender involved in FATAL accident as one dies at the spot

The former centre-back was involved in a car accident on Monday and was rushed to the hospital for treatment

Former Asante Kotoko defender Awudu Nafiu is in stable condition despite sustaining several degrees of injuries after he was involved in a road accident near Nkawie in the Awima Nwabiagya South District on Monday, AshesGyamera.com understands.

The 32-year-old, who was driving a 2011 model Toyota Tundra with registration number GT 5863 – 11, was said to be returning from a visit back to Kumasi.

However, it is believed that his car failed brake after he opted to make an overtaking and the car got involved in a head-on collision with a Daewoo Matiz with registration number AS 3869 – 19 which was also coming from the opposite direction.

The driver of the Matiz died on the spot according an eyewitness’ account while Nafiu was rushed to the Nkawie Hospital for treatment.

Nafiu currently plies his trade with Ethiopian side Dire Dawa after signing for them on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Equatorial Guinean side Futuro Kings where he joined in January 2019.

He has also previously had stints with AshantiGold SC, Berekum Chelsea, King Faisal and Tanzanian giants Azam FC.

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has been handed a major boast ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations holding in Cameroon following the arrival of Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, Leicester City defender Daniel Amartey, Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew, Baba Iddrisu of Real Mallorca fame and goalkeeper Jojo Wollacot.

The Black Stars will play a friendly game against Algeria on Wednesday before they depart from Doha, Qatar to Cameroon for the Afcon.

The team is likely to leave Doha to Cameroon on Friday with a chartered flight.

Their first game at the tournament will be against Morocco on January 10.

Ghana FA confirms new date for Hearts vs Asante Kotoko in Accra

The country’s football governing body has set a new date for the outstanding game between the Phobians and Porcupine Warriors

Ghana Football Association has announced the new date for the Super Clash between Hearts of Oak vs Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The matchday seven game which was initially billed to take place in December was postponed due to Hearts’ participation in the 2021 Caf Confederation Cup.

The Phobians played Algerian side JS Saoura that same week and had to use five days to commute from the North African country to Ghana.

“The Super Clash match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko SC has been scheduled for Sunday, February 20, 2022,” a Ghana FA statement read.

“The Matchweek 7 outstanding match will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium and will kick off at 3pm.

“The fixture was postponed due to Hearts of Oak’s participation in the CAF competition preliminary matches.

“This will be final outstanding match to round up the first round of the 2021/22 League season,” the statement added.

Kotoko lead the league log with 23 points, ten points above Hearts of Oak.

Bechem United forward Augustine Okrah has insisted that Hearts of Oak did not deserve a point in the Ghana Premier League matchday eleven game played over the weekend at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Although, the game ended goalless, Okrah who lasted 86 minutes before he was replaced with believes Bechem should have carried the day since they outplayed the Phobians and had several opportunities.

However, Okrah as well as Emmanuel Avornyo and Hafiz Wontah Konkoni fluffed the opportunities that came their way.

“We could’ve won all three points against Hearts this afternoon,” Okrah posted on Twitter after the game.

“However, half a loaf of bread is better than none. They were just lucky

Okrah further heaped praise on 16-year-old midfielder Clinton Duodo who tormented the Hearts defenders throughout the game and was also adjudged the Best Player of the game.

Okrah rejoined Bechem United from Asante Kotoko at the start of the season following the expiration of his contract. The 28-year-old has had an incredible start to the campaign as he boasts of six goals and three assists in eleven games.

King Faisal defeated Bibiani Gold Stars 2-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday to go joint top of Ghana Premier League log.

Faisal coach Nurudeen Amadu maintained his starting line up that eliminated Asante Kotoko from the FA Cup in midweek while Gold Stars made two changes in their squad.

Both sides struggled to create decent chances in the opening embers of the game as most of the action was centered in the midfield.

On the 20th minute, Baba Yahaya went past his marker and played through Osman Ibrahim who calmly sent in his effort past onrushing goalkeeper Hammond Amon Nii Kalala to put Faisal ahead.

Prince Kwabena Owusu was handed a glorious opportunity pull equalise for Gold Stars by the 67th minute but the striker surprisingly shot wide.

Substitute Emmanuel Sarkodie saw his long range shot deep in additional time narrowly missing the target.

Faisal have now moved joint top of the league log with 23 points, same as city rivals Asante Kotoko.

They will travel to Techiman next weekend to play Eleven Wonders on matchday 12.

Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum Narteh has for th first time this season admitted that he was satisfied with his players’ performance following their 2-0 win over Aduana Stars in Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors after a shocking elimination from FA Cup silenced Aduana with goals from Cameroonian striker Georges Mfegue Rodrigues and Richmond Lamptey.

“I’m very satisfied with the performance and win. It is very joyous if you make history,” Ogum said after the famous win.

“These genes have been there over the years and we’ve been able to break them. Kudos to the boys. As I told you before the game, I told them that the threat, the intimidation, the fear outside the field will come but they need to stay focused.

“And they did so by sticking to the game plan and if you see the way we played we were very confident on the ball. We were very confident without the ball. We kept to our game plan keeping the ball on the turf, looking at the pocket of spaces and playing the ball through,” he added.

Kotoko, prior to the game, had failed to pick a win in all their previous eleven meetings in Dormaa Ahenkro and had only scored once.

However, they currently have the bragging rights and lead the league log with 23 points, three points above Aduana and King Faisal although the latter have a game in hand.

Aduana Stars coach Asare Bediako has slammed his players poor attitude in their shocking 2-0 home defeat to Asante Kotoko in matchday eleven of Ghana Premier League at home.

After winning seven games on a row, Aduana failed to recover from their defeat to Medeama last weekend as they were punished by Asante Kotoko in front of their home fans.

Kotoko had failed to pick a win in Dormaa Ahenkro ever since Aduana made their appearance in the top-flight prior to the game but goals from Georges Mfegue Rodrigues and Richmond Lamptey did the damage.

“I am very very sad today because I was not expecting such a result,” Bediako said after the game.

“Kotoko took over the midfield. Honestly, I am disappointed in my players because they didn’t play the way we wanted them to do.


“Everything was in a mess. You see we were forced to make a change as early as possible. Eric Kwakwa couldn’t kick and hold the ball the way we wanted him to do. His tackling was poor and that’s why we changed him.”

” It’s a big blow to us having lost to King Faisal here too. We are supposed to be winning our home games,” he added.

Aduana 0-2 Asante Kotoko: Mfegue & Lamptey’s goals stun Aduana as Kotoko pick first-ever win in Dormaa Ahenkro

The Porcupine Warriors picked their first-ever win over Aduana Stars in Dormaa Ahenkro thanks to a goal each from each half of the game by George Mfegue and Richmond Lamptey

Asante Kotoko defeated Aduana Stars 2-0 in the top of the table clash of Ghana Premier League at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa Ahenkro on Saturday.

Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum Narteh ringed two changes in his starting line up that lost to King Faisal in midweek as he paraded a relatively new squad to the league leaders.

Defender Andrew Appau whose mistake led to the goal that eliminated Kotoko from the FA Cup was dropped and his place was taken up by skipper Abdul Ganiu Ismail.

Also, youngster Augustine Agyapong was handed his maiden league start for Kotoko to replace Sherrif Mohammed.

However, Cameroonian strikers Etuoga Mbella Frank Thierry and Mfegue George Rodrigues led the attack despite their poor showing against Faisal.

After a barring quarter hour in the game where chances were at the premium for both sides, Kotoko began to press their hosts with Mbella and Mfegue causing troubles.

Kotoko finally had their noses in front by the 19th minute when Mfeuge rose above his marker to meet a teasing cross from Imoro Ibrahim which he perfectly headed it in beyond the reach of goalkeeper Joseph Addo.

The goal marked Mfegue’s third of the season as the Cameroonian continued what has looked like a fairly good start to his stay in Ghana.

Aduana came close to equalise by the 32nd minute when Emmanuel Gyamfi sent in a long cross but Sam Adams’ last ditch effort was saved by goalkeeper Danlad.

Two minutes later, Kotoko’s Mudasiru saw his long range effort been denied by the woodwork as Aduana continued to live dangerously.

After the break, Daniel Bio and Yahaya Mohammed were ever present in their search for equaliser but Danlad Ibrahim stood between them and a goal.

With five minutes remaining Aduana’s Abass Mohammed had a chance to draw even but Danlad saved the situation with a wonderful block before Bright Agyei’s rebound could only hit the side net.

Richmond Lamptey finally found an opening and doubled Kotoko’s advantage on 90th minute to silence the vociferous home supporters who were anxiously awaiting an equaliser. The goal obviously left Aduana devasted.

Kotoko have now picked up their maiden victory on Dormaa soil since Aduana qualified to play in Ghana Premier League in 2009. The win also means that Kotoko lead the league log with 23 points, three points above city rivals King Faisal who will host Bibiani Gold Stars on Sunday.
