The Black Stars skipper believes three points is enough to give them a head start in the country’s quest to qualify to the next World Cup

Ghana captain Andre Ayew has suggested that Black Stars did well to defeat Ethiopia in the opening game of Group G of the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

Wakaso Mubarak’s first half long range shot was all that the Black Stars need to defeat the Walias and top the table after first round of matches.

However, majority of Ghanaians were not impressed with the general performance of the team amid the victory especially defender Abdul Baba Rahman, Jordan Ayew and Jeffrey Schlupp.

In spite of the complaints, Ayew believes the players did their best especially when they played in front of few Ghanaian supporters due to Covid-19 restrictions.

“Three points. Nothing comes easy,” Ayew posted on Twitter.

“Not a full stadium but great atmosphere. We thank all Ghanaians for the support and love. we keep going,” Ayew added.

The Black Stars will leave Accra to Johannesburg, South Africa on Saturday to prepare for the next game against Bafana Bafana at the Soccer City Sports Stadium on Monday.

Four players who started the game against Ethiopia will not make the trip to South Africa due to Covid-19 scare. They include Jordan Ayew, Jeffrey Schlupp, Andy Yiadom and Daniel Amartey. These players ply their trade in England and with South Africa being named among the countries with red flag for COVID-19 cases by the British government, they will be excused.
