The Phobians have officially announced the suspension of their skipper after reports emerged earlier that he had gone AWOL

Ghana Premier League champions Hearts of Oak have announced officially the suspension of captain Fatawu Mohammed following his decision to go AWOL from the club’s duties.

Fatawu, whose contract is near expiration, has been away from training for sometime now leading to the club opting to suspend him to serve as a deterrent to others.

In his absence, centre-back Mohammed Alhassan has been named as the interim captain and will lead the Phobians in their FA Cup and Premier League games.

“We wish to inform fans of the club and the general public that captain – Fatawu Mohammed has been suspended from the senior team for 2 weeks for violating the terms of his contract,” a club statement read.

“During the period of the suspension, he will be required to train with the junior team. In his absence, Mohammed Alhassan will act as captain
The player has been engaged and the implications of his actions and the reasons behind the punishment has been explained to him,” the statement added.

Hearts currently sit fifth on the Premier League log with 18 points and have a game in hand against rivals Asante Kotoko. It has been slated for February 20 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
