Ghana Premier League champions Hearts of Oak have requested for the services of Great Olympics captain Gladson Awako ahead of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season, AshesGyamera.com can confirm.
The Phobians were initially reported to have closed in on Awako with reports even suggesting that he had signed a two-year deal.
Although, Awako denied having held talks with Hearts officials over a possible move last week, AshesGyamera.com can confirm that the Phobians wrote their city rivals on August 5 to officially express their interest.
The 30-year-old has only six months left on his contract with Olympics and the club has already met him and his counsel for an extension.
Hearts coach Samuel Boadu is believed to have told the player that he would need him t bolster the club’s midfield since they will be participating in the upcoming Caf Champions League for the first time in almost a decade.
Awako, who recently made his Black Stars debut against Sao Tome and Principe in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, previously won the Caf Champions League with T.P Mazembe.
Hearts, after winning the Premier League, are hoping to win a double this season as they take on Ashanti Gold in the final of the FA Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
