Gold Stars leave Ghana to shock JS Kabylie in CAF Champions League

The Ghanaian side will be hoping to cause a major upset in Algeria without a head coach in the second leg of the CAF Champions League tie

Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Gold Stars are on their way to Algiers, capital city of Algeria ahead of CAF Champions League second leg encounter in the preliminary stage.

The Gye Nyame lads suffered a 2-0 home defeat in the first leg at Accra Sports Stadium last weekend. They will now have to double their efforts in order to overturn the scoreline and stand a chance of progressing to the next stage of the competition.

Gold Stars are making the trip without their head coach Frimpong Manso, who was sacked for poor performance after the first leg. In his absence, Godwin Ablordey and other two assistant coaches have been given the nod to steer affairs in North Africa.

Chief executive officer Kwesi Adu and other members of the club’s management team have already arrived in Algeria to prepare ground for the team.

Farage vows to scrap route to UK ILR & Citizenship in controversial immigration shakeup

0

Nigel Farage has unveiled a sweeping immigration proposal that would abolish indefinite leave to remain (ILR) – the main route through which migrants gain British citizenship – a move critics warn could plunge tens of thousands of legally resident families into uncertainty.

The Reform UK leader said the policy would directly target the so-called “Boriswave” – the surge of post-Brexit migrants who arrived under rules introduced by Boris Johnson. Farage described the wave as “the greatest betrayal of democratic wishes in living memory” and accused incoming migrants of becoming “a huge burden on the state.”

Farage claimed that up to 800,000 people, largely young and “low-skilled,” are expected to qualify for ILR in the next three to four years. Under his plan, all those eligible would instead be forced to reapply for visas under tougher conditions, including higher salary thresholds, stricter English-language requirements and reduced family rights.

ILR currently allows people who have lived and worked legally in the UK for five years to apply for permanent residence, with the option to seek citizenship after an additional year. Farage said abolishing the system would save Britain £234 billion, though the figure was discredited by the Centre for Policy Studies, which has withdrawn the report he cited. He insisted the savings estimate was “too low” and understated the financial impact of immigration.

At a tense press conference with Reform’s policy chief Zia Yusuf, Farage refused to detail the exact costs or the groups who would be affected. Yusuf suggested non-EU nationals would face the toughest scrutiny, while EU citizens with settled status would be exempt. However, he hinted at new negotiations with Brussels over welfare entitlements for EU nationals in the UK.

The proposals drew swift criticism from Downing Street, Labour and London mayor Sadiq Khan. A Labour spokesperson accused Farage of “thriving on division” and rolling out “unrealistic, unworkable and unfunded plans,” while a Labour source dismissed his claims about migrants’ reliance on benefits, pointing to government data showing only around 16% of foreign claims come from those with ILR.

Sadiq Khan warned the plans would endanger the rights of thousands of Londoners who have “legal status, are our friends and colleagues, and contribute hugely to our city.”

Farage’s pledge would also lengthen the citizenship process, requiring applicants to wait at least seven years, prove fluent English, and renounce dual nationality. Reports suggest the new income requirement could rise to £60,000 – far above the current £41,700 skilled worker visa threshold – while those on visas would be denied access to the NHS and welfare.

Labour has already set out plans to tighten ILR rules, extending eligibility to 10 years, but stopped short of scrapping the scheme altogether. Farage, meanwhile, doubled down, claiming he was “firmly of the belief” that most future ILR applicants “are not working, have not worked and in all probability will never work.”

Kwara United hold Warri Wolves, shift focus to Asante Kotoko Clash in Ghana

The Nigerian side will be heading to Ghana over the weekend to face Porcupine Warriors in CAF Confederation Cup

Kwara United secured a valuable away point on Sunday after battling newly promoted Warri Wolves to a goalless draw in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 4 fixture at the Southern Delta University Stadium, Ozoro.

The Harmony Boys started brightly, dictating play and dominating the midfield exchanges much to the admiration of the home crowd. Their early pressure nearly paid off in the 25th minute when Johnmark Aule Shirsha unleashed a strike that forced a nervy save from the Wolves goalkeeper, who tipped the effort behind for a corner.

Despite their dominance, Kwara United could not find the breakthrough before halftime, while Wolves struggled to create any real openings in attack.

The hosts improved after the restart, but Kwara United’s backline remained solid. Goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso, supported by Kabiru Muhammed, Saheed Olaniyi, Ibrahim Yahaya, and Victor Adeoye, delivered a composed defensive performance to keep the game level. Substitute Obiorah Kingsley came close to breaking the deadlock in the 58th minute with a thunderous shot, only to be denied once again by the alert Wolves shot-stopper.

Warri Wolves threatened late on, but the Harmony Boys’ defensive resilience ensured the points were shared.

Speaking after the match, Head Coach Tunde Sanni praised his team’s discipline and composure under pressure, describing the result as the perfect build-up to their CAF Confederation Cup assignment.

“It was a good game and a good test ahead of Asante Kotoko,” Sanni said. “I believe Asante cannot do more than what Wolves did here today. If we can survive this, we can survive in Ghana.”

Kwara United now sit on five points from four NPFL matches. Their attention turns to continental duty, as they prepare to face Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in the CAF Confederation Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, September 21.

Kotoko, on the other hand, picked a crucial 1-0 away victory over Berekum Chelsea on opening day of Ghana Premier League— a result which marked their first-ever win at the venue since Chelsea qualified to participate in the top-flight in 2010.

Otto Addo drops Fatawu, Razak & co. ahead of Ghana’s double header in 2026 World Cup qualifiers

The Black Stars gaffer has opted not to select the Foxes in-form winger ahead of the international break

Ghana head coach Otto Addo has surprisingly dropped Leicester City star Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and named underfire Thomas Partey in his squad to face Chad and Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month.

Also, Nations FC defender Razak Simpson has been snubbed following his mistakes against Nigeria in the friendly game in London.

Fatawu has been in a fantastic form in the Championship this season, scoring the winner for the Foxes last weekend against Charlton Athletic but that could not convince the Black Stars boss.

However, Jordan Ayew leads the players plying their trade in England, who are expected to help the Black Stars grind results. Tottenham new star Mohammed Kudus made the squad alongside Antoine Semenyo and Tariq Lamptey and

EOCO recovers 60 out of 300 suspected stolen vehicles

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has revealed that about 300 stolen vehicles shipped into Ghana have been identified through joint investigations with the FBI and Canadian police since 2022.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, EOCO legal officer Paa Bruce Sam explained that about 60 of these vehicles have already been seized through court processes and are being prepared for return to their rightful owners.

“In collaboration with the FBI, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Canadian Police, in 2022, we began the seizure of stolen vehicles shipped into Ghana, and we discovered about 300 possible stolen vehicles,” he said.

He cautioned that individuals unable to prove ownership or the legitimate source of a vehicle, if found in their possession, face serious legal consequences.

“Under Section 146 of the Criminal Offences Act, anyone found in possession of stolen property can be arraigned and prosecuted. So if one of these cars is found in your possession and you are not able to prove ownership or that you do not know it is a stolen vehicle, you will be processed for court and also be charged with money laundering,” Sam added.
