The former Featherweight champion could not hold it as he finally handed over her daughter’s hand in marriage
Former World Featherweight and Super Featherweight champion Professor Azumah Nelson was in a joyful mood last weekend when his daughter Dorinda Azumah was getting married.
Dorinda and her long time boyfriend tied the knot in a fashionable style but it was the dancing skills of Azumah Nelson that got much of the attention.
After being calm throughout the event, Azumah who was dressed all white, was finally seen tapping his feet to the sweet melodies being played by DJ and he finally stood up to exhibit his dancing skills.
Other family members later joined him and the newly married couple were overly excited to see the famous former boxer very elated because of them.
Azumah Nelson Profile
Azumah Nelson was born on 19 July 1958 in Bukom, Accra, Ghana. As a boy, boxing was like a hobby to him and he always wanted to fight.
He tried on several occasions in the streets and was what led him into the gym for the first time where faced the best boxer at the time. This was the genesis of his boxing career.
In July 2018, Azumah Nelson organized a fight night to celebrate his 60th birthday at the Bukom Boxing Arena. This event brought together fighters from highly rated gyms in the country to fight contenders in their divisions.
Some dignitaries including Nii Lante Vanderpuiye and Nii Amarkai Amarteifio who are two former sports ministers, Ian Walker the British High Commissioner to Ghana at the time, and Peter Zwennes the president of Ghana Boxing Authority, graced the occasion.
Azumah Nelson Professional Career
Despite all his early achievements as an amateur boxer and being undefeated in 13 fights, Nelson was virtually unknown outside Ghana. Because of this, he was a decisive underdog when, on short notice, he challenged WBC featherweight champion, Salvador Sánchez, on 21 July 1982 at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
