Jordan Ayew tastes defeat in Premier League return against Liverpool

The striker returned to club duties this weekend but he could not help the Eagles to avoid defeat against Liverpool

Ghana forward Jordan Ayew was a second half substitute when Crystal Palace suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League at the Selhurst Park in Bibiani on Sunday.

The 30-year-old was part of the Black Stars squad that represented Ghana at 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. However, he failed to register a single shot on target or score a goal for Ghana as the Black Stars bowed out of the tournament with defeats to Morocco and minnows Comoros.

Ayew availed himself to Palace technical team for selection was quickly drafted into the matchday squad but could only start from the bench.

Liverpool scored the first goal of the game through Virgil van Dijk by the eighth minute after he connected a pass from Andrew Robertson.

Liverpool doubled their lead by the 32nd minute through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain when he combined with Andrew Robertson.

After the break, Palace pulled one back after Odsonne Edouard latched on to Jesse Philipe-Mateta’s pass by the 55th minute.

Ayew was then thrown into the game by 77th minute by head coach Patrick Veirra to replace Will Hughes in their search for the equaliser.

However, Liverpool broke their hearts with a late goal through penalty by Fabinho on the 89th minute. A foul on Diogo Jota was initially ruled out by the referee only for VAR to overrule the decision.

Palace now sit 13th on the stand with 24 points, seven points clear of relegation zone.

Partey sees Red card in Arsenal’s defeat to Liverpool in League Cup semifinals

The midfielder lasted only fifteen minutes on the pitch after he arrived from Cameroon and was sent back

Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey was sent off in Arsenal’s 2-0 home defeat to Liverpool in the second leg of the League Cup semifinals at the Emirates Sports Stadium on Thursday.

The 28-year-old endured a horrible tournament with Ghana as they were knocked out of the group stage of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations ongoing in Cameroon following defeats to Morocco and minnows Comoros.

Despite arriving in London in the early morning of Thursday, Mikel Arteta opted to add him to the matchday squad to face Liverpool after picking a goalless draw in the first leg.

With Arsenal down by a goal thanks to Diogo Jota’s first half goal, Partey was thrown into the game by the 74th minute to replace Smith-Rowe.

However, the Ghanaian was booked on the 87th minute following a rush tackle on a Liverpool player before he was sent off three minutes later.

Jota added another goal in-between Partey’s first booking and his second to send Liverpool to Wembley.

Liverpool will now square it off with Chelsea in the final next month.

“I want to play like Virgil van Dijk,” Ghanaian defender Salisu aims at playing like Liverpool defender

The Saints will face Liverpool over the weekend in Premier League and the young Ghanaian defender admits he wants to emulate and be at the level of Virgil van Dijk

Ghana and Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu has revealed that he is aiming to play at the top level like Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk in future.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will host the side from Saint Mary’s this weekend at Anfield as they hope to keep the title chase on Chelsea and Salisu who has been in fine form since joining Southampton from La Liga side Rayo Vallecano last season, believes van Dijk is one of the best defenders in the world.

โ€œI think Virgil is a very good central defender and, I would say, is one of the very best central defenders in the world,” Salisu told Daily Echo.

โ€œOne day, I want to be like him, especially with how he plays and the confidence he has and how he leads the team.โ€

Van Dijk, just like Salisu, began life in the Premier League with Southampton but the former went on to join Liverpool in January 2018 for a world-record of ยฃ75million, the most money ever paid for a defender at the time.

Van Dijk has won the Premier League, Champions League and has also being named the 2018-19 PFA Players’ Player of the Year.

Black Stars ‘wonderboy’ Issahaku Fatawu joins Dreams FC

The wonderkid has joined the Still Believe lads ahead of the new season

Ghana youngster Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has joined Premier League side Dreams FC in a one-year loan deal ahead of the start of 2021/22 season.

The 17-year-old, who was linked with Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon and Premier League side Liverpool, is believed to have signed a short term deal from Steadfast FC.

Although, reports in the local media earlier this week suggested that Issahaku will joining Ghana Premier League returnees Real Tamale United, AshesGyamera’s sources have revealed that Dreams FC hijacked the move in the eleventh hour.

The Dawu-based club promised him a starting role and more game time in their squad which enticed him and his counsel.

Issahaku was the Best Player of 2021 Africa U20 Nations Cup as helped Ghana to win the title. He scored two incredible goals and assisted six goals to get the world talking about his immense quality.

He made his senior national team debut last weekend when Ghana defeated Zimbabwe 3-1 in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

The youngster was handed a starting birth by Milovan Rajevac and he impressed a lot of Ghanaians with his sterling performance.

He will make his Premier League debut against Asante Kotoko at the Theater of Dreams in Dawu on October 29 when the new season kicks off.

Issahaku is expected to leave the shores of the country next year for greener pastures when he turns 18.

Betting Odds for Sunday games across Europe; simple way of making money

With the last round of matches to be played today before the various leagues go on halt for international break, AshesGyamera.com predicts the outcome of games to be played on Sunday.

In the Premier League, Liverpool will welcome champions Manchester City to Anfield in a make or break encounter. A win is imminent for both sides but Liverpool may pull a surprise against the run of play.

There are at least two goals expected to rain this afternoon when West Ham host Brentford who held Liverpool to a 3-3 stalemate last weekend, while Tottenham Hotspur will hope to recover from their slumber.

After winning their opening three games, Tottenham have surprisingly fallen short of what everyone expected of them. They are winless in their last three games and today provides a better opportunity for them to show reactions.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid after their shocking defeat to minnows Sheriff Tiraspol in the UEFA Champions League will be hoping to make a statement that they still have their mojo when they face Espanyol away.

Elsewhere in France, Messi, Kaylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr are expected to come to the party when PSG face Stade Rennes in Ligue 1 biggest game of the weekend. Ghanaian midfielder Kamaldeen Sulemana has also promised to punish PSG despite their star-studded squad.

Kudus Mohammed suffers fresh injury; lasts only six minutes against Liverpool

The promising youngster could not play to the full length of his abilities against the Reds as his night was cut short by a knee injury

Ghana and Ajax midfielder Kudus Mohammed suffered a knee injury against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night in Amsterdam.

The 20-year-old clashed with Fabihno by the sixth minute and twisted his knee, leading to an early shower as he left the field in disappointment.

Kudus was replaced with Quincy Promes with the game still goalless.

Essien reveals why he didn’t sign for Liverpool in 2002

The midielder has revealed that he was on the verge of signing for the Anfield side but the Blues brought an improved offer later

Former Ghana and Chelsea international Michael Essien has revealed that he almost signed for Premier League side Liverpool in 2002.

After making a name in France with Bastia, Essien became a transfer target for many clubs in Europe and Liverpool’s former French manager Gerard Houllier tabled an offer for the defensive midfielder but the deal fell through.

The 37-year-old believes it wasn’t the best time for him to play in England until Jose Mourinho and Chelsea came into the scene.

“I had lot of offers. I was close to signing for Liverpool when Gerard Houllier was their coach,” Essien said in #ConvosWithCarol.

”I even went to Melwood to meet the coach. We had a talk and I returned to France but the offers were still coming. PSG, Olympique Marseille et al, but I told Bastia I don’t want to move and they also didn’t want to sell me at that time because they wanted me to stay for another year which was fine with me because I also didn’t want to leave the club so I stayed for another season, that’s my third year with the club.

”Olympique Lyon joined the three aforementioned clubs to enquire about me but I thought it was too early to move to England that was why I joined Lyon and later moved to Chelsea under Mourinho,” he said.

“Lyon were my favourite team when I went to France because they were winning everything. I told my agent that if Lyon have come into the picture I’d like to join them.

”PSG were then serious about signing me to the extent that they made an offer. I was back home at that time and the call came that PSG had made a bid for me. It was even on the national television that I had signed for PSG which I had not because I was still in Ghana.
”There was a lot of controversies going on between the board and my agent so when I went back to Bastia, we met with the board members and the president, and I told them I’d prefer to join Lyon although I liked Paris.

”I was really caught between PSG and Lyon but my preference was always Lyon. I had then spoken to the president and their coach. I gave them my word that when I return from my holidays in Ghana, I’ll do everything to sign for them but It was not easy,” he added.

Essien, after signing for Chelsea later in 2005 for ยฃ24.4 million, became the club’s most expensive player at that time under Jose Mourinho and went on to win the Premier League title in his maiden season.

‘I shouldn’t have said that’ – Ronaldo regrets Real Madrid exit hint

Having referred to his Madrid career in the past-tense during a post-match interview, Ronaldo was more reflective in later press statements

Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted he may have spoken out of turn in suggesting that his Real Madrid days were numbered after the Champions League final.

Having starred for Madrid throughout the competition, this year’s top scorer drew a blank against Liverpool in Kiev.
Substitute Gareth Bale stepped up to seal a third straight title as the Blancos prevailed 3-1, with Karim Benzema also getting his name on the scoresheet.

Ronaldo, however, stole the headlines when he referred to his sparkling Madrid career in the past tense to reporters.

That statement caused an instant reaction, with both Madrid president Florentino Perez and coach Zinedine Zidane speaking out to deny his exit .
And while he later claimed he was taken out of context, the Portugal striker seemed to regret the storm his comments had caused.

“It takes away from a beautiful, historic moment for us that is winning three Champions Leagues in a row, obviously it is a special moment,” he told Fox Sports .

“It’s always great to win the Champions League because I know how important that competition is, I have had a great Champions League from start to finish so I’m very happy.

“A player’s personal things aren’t the most important thing now, it might have been taken out of context but maybe I shouldn’t have said what I said.”

Ronaldo finished the 2017-18 Champions League with 15 goals in 13 starts, and now boasts no less than five winner’s medals in the competition with Manchester United and Madrid.
