The Knight of the whistle has been accused of embezzlement of funds by Ghana government
Ghanaian Fifa referee David Laryea has been listed among a group of government’s employees who have allegedly embezzled state’s funds in recent years and will have to face the Chief Justice Gloria Akuffo’s scrutiny, according to Graphic Sports.
Laryea, who is a Registrar of the Adjabeng Court in Accra, according to reports have been diverting funds raised from fines from people found guilty at the court to different accounts at the blind side of authorities.
The referee who has been in several controversies during football games, allegedly did this illegal act with an associate at his office.
Laryea was the assistant referee when Joseph Lamptey awarded a dubious penalty to South Africa in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Senegal which was later replayed.
Although, Laryea was spared on the grounds that he didn’t award the infringement, Lamptey has since been banned for life.
AshesGyamera understands that Laryea can be sentenced up to ten years in prison if found guilty by the Chief Justice.
