Revealed: Why Kwesi Appiah has distanced himself from vacant Asante Kotoko job?

The former Black Stars gaffer is said to have brushed aside reports linking him to his boyhood club after the role became vacant on Friday

Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has refuted reports linking him to vacant Asante Kotoko coaching role, AshesGyamera.com can reveal.

The ‘Silent Killer,’ who is currently unattached has been speculated as one of the major candidates to replace Maxwell Konadu as the new coach after the latter was shown the exit on Friday.

However, AshesGyamera.com can authoritatively reveal that Appiah has not been officially contacted by Kotoko’s top hierarchy and he is even not interested in the role since he has decided to take a little time off coaching at the moment.

According to our sources, Appiah, a former captain of the club, is currently into other businesses including building and construction, hotel facilities as well as estate development and believes these give him comfort and peace of mind.

Aside Appiah, former Ghana assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko and a host of other foreign coaches have been likened to the club.

“There is no way Kwesi Appiah will become the next coach of Asante Kotoko because he is actually not interested at the moment,” a source close to the coach told AshesGyamera.com.

“After his contract with Ghana expired, he decided to take time off football and leave the scene for a while because he has been through a lot. Currently, he is doing other businesses which are showing promises and it will be premature to halt all the plans and projections made to become the successor of Maxwell Konadu.

“Everything in this world is possible but this comeback is highly impossible. I believe Kotoko will look elsewhere,” the source added.

“Club Notice:

Management of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club wishes to inform the general public that it has decided to part ways with Coach Maxwell Konadu as its Head Coach with immediate effect,” a club statement read.

‘Underfire’ Maxwell Konadu explains why Fabio Gama & Keita aren’t playing for Kotoko

The Porcupine Warriors boss has shed lights on why the two foreign players are yet to feature for the club this season despite being registered

Asante Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu has revealed that he has been missing the services of Brazilian midfielder Fabio Gama and Guinean striker Naby Keita because of documentation despite the club officially registering them for 2020/21 season.

With Kotoko struggling to pick points in the league this season, their woes were compounded at home as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Great Olympics on Thursday in Accra and a section of the supporters have began to question the reasons behind the absence of Gama and Keita.

“We’re still waiting for the documentation of Fabio Gama and Naby Keita,” Konadu said.

“They are foreigners in the country and we will need their documents to be ready before we can use them in league games so it is not deliberate attempt to bench them,” he added.

Konadu also backed some of the new players especially Evans Adomako who have come under intense criticisms due to poor performances and believes they will come good as the season wears on.

“Some of the new players are only beginning to settle in. They will get better. They know the demands of the supporters and will respond accordingly,” he said.

Kotoko will play Dreams FC next this weekend before the host Al Hilal Omdurman in the first leg of the Caf Champions League first round tie in mid week.

Why Al Hilal will arrive in Ghana with 27 players for Caf Champions League against Kotoko?

The Blue Waves are expected in the country this weekend ahead of the Caf Champions League first leg against the Porcupine Warriors

Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman are expected to arrive in Ghana with a 38-man contingent for the Caf Champions League first leg encounter against Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium.

With the game scheduled for Wednesday, December 23, the North African side wants to arrive on time and fine tune in order to be ready for the make or break fixture since they aim at gate crashing into the group stage at all cost.

Since Kotoko’s return encounter in the preliminary round against FC Nouadhibou from Mauritania was cancelled due to issues relating to Coronavirus disease test results and later handed a walk over by Caf because Nouadhibou could not raise a team, Hilal’s top hierarchy have advised themselves not to fall victim to any tactics or last minute games they believe Kotoko may be attempting.

As a result, they have decided to travel with 27 players so that even in the worse case scenario, where some of their players are tested positive of COVID-19, they will still have enough men to record a good scoreline in Ghana before the return leg in Sudan in January.

According to the club’s vice president, Mr Tahir Younus, they will touch down on Saturday with two separate teams to at least spend three days in Ghana before the kick off.

“The total number of people coming to Ghana for the game against Asante Kotoko is around 38 including players,” Younus is quoted as saying by Ghana Sports Page.

“You know because of the Coronavirus disease, we are afraid it may affect us so we’ve got all the players in the list with us to avoid the problems that faced the Mauritanian team in Accra.

“They had three or four players of their players infected of COVID-19 and then they couldn’t complete the official list, so we are taking all the possible players available with us so that even if we are faced with same problem like FC Nouadhibou then we can manage. We are flying with 27 players to Ghana,” he added.

AshesGyamera understands that Hilal could not get one airline for their contingent but have arranged for them to travel in two separate routes.

One of the teams will board Egypt Air while the other takes Ethiopian Air and they will both arrive at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra with a delegation already available to welcome them.

“We are leaving on Friday, December 18 and will arrive in Accra between 8:30am-12:00 midday through Egypt Air. However, we have some of our colleagues flying with Ethiopian Airlines because as you know the big number of people, we don’t have enough seats in one flight so we are flying most of the people through Ethiopian Airline but they will leave at the same time and they will arrive same time,” Younus said.

Hilal are no pushovers as they defeated FC Vipers both home and away to reach this stage of the competition.

Asante Kotoko 0-1 Great Olympics: Michael Yeboah’s winner piles pressure on ‘tactless’ Maxwell Konadu

The Porcupine  Warriors season has taken a different twist as they suffered a surprising home defeat to the Wonder Boys barely a week to their continental assignment

Asante Kotoko’s ambition to win the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League title was dealt a big blow as they succumbed to a 1-0 home defeat to Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday.

After a boring first-half performances from both sides where chances became premium in the game, the fixture lighted up after the break.

The visitors began to create problems for Kotoko defence but failed to make it count on the scoresheet.

Great Olympics finally broke the deadlock by the 54th minute through Michael Yeboah. The midfielder headed beyond goalkeeper Kwame Baah for the opener after connecting a pass from onto a wonderful cross Abdul Manaf with a powerful header.

Kotoko changed their gameplan and moved men forward for the equaliser but their attack was consistently neutralised.

By the 72nd minute, Emmanuel Gyamfi missed a glorious opportunity to pull even following a rebound from Anabila’s free-kick which forced Konadu to replace him with Evans Adomako out of frustration.

Kotoko will now head to Dawu to face Dreams FC in the next league game on Sunday before they welcome Al Hilal Omdurman to the Accra Sports Stadium for the Caf Champions League first leg fixture.

The Wenchi High Court has asked the Electoral Commission to go ahead to complete the disputed Parliamentary election held in the Sene West Constituency on December 7, 2020.

According to the court at a sitting, an injunction filed before it by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was premature since the Electoral Commission ought to have been allowed to complete its work.

While the Electoral Commission said after the court session that it will go ahead to count the content in the disputed ballot box at the Tattor Battor Polling Station which was snatched by one Christian Nukpeta and retrieved later, lawyers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are insisting that the two parties should meet the EC and see the way forward, reports Graphic Online’s Bono East correspondent, Emmanuel Adu-Gyamerah.

“We were not ready for this match obviously. I mean the players,” Papic said after the game.

“We were a liittle bit better in the second half, but that is not enough. Missing so many chances, missing the penalty is not giving us the chance to win the match today.”

“Like I said before the match, it is going to be upside down, one match you win, one match you lose. Until we start to be stable. Time is not there but this will come,” he added.

Aduana were then resolute at the back especially following the introduction of Emmanuel Akuoku ‘Obubulebu’ to record a famous victory.

“Naby Keita better than all Kotoko strikers’; agent blames Maxwell Konadu for lack of playing time

The agent for the Porcupine Warriors striker appears to blame the head coach for sidelining his client despite being fit

Charles Kouadio, agent of Asante Kotoko striker Naby Keita, has launched a scathing attack on head coach Maxwell Konadu.

According to Kouadio, Keita has been passed fit after picking up a minor injury and always impress during training sessions but he has been sidelined and many at times don’t even make the matchday squad.

This season, Kwame Poku, Ibrahim Osman and Evans Adomako have been the preferred options by Konadu in both Ghana Premier League and Caf Champions League.

“Naby Keita is fit and not injured but the coach has decided not to use him,” Kouadio told Otec FM.

“For now, he is still part of the Kotoko team so anytime he is called upon to help, he will play wholeheartedly.

“No one is begging anybody to use him [Keita]. He is a good striker and I can boldly tell you that none of the Kotoko attackers is better him so the right thing must be done,” he added.

Asante Kotoko supporters ‘tear apart’ uninspiring Evans Adomako despite victory over Legon Cities

The Porcupine Warriors supporters were left in a bitter-sweet moment when they defeated the Royals to pick their first win of the campaign

Asante Kotoko supporters have launched a scathing attack on new striker Evans Adomako after their 1-0 victory over Legon Cities FC in the Ghana Premier League on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Osman Ibrahim’s tenth minute strike was enough to hand Maxwell Konadu’s charges their first three points of the season after sharing the spoils against Techiman Eleven Wonders and Berekum Chelsea.

However, Osman was replaced with Adomako by the 43rd minute after he picked up an injury and the latter’s performance was unimpressive and uninspiring according to reactions by the supporters.

Adomako, who joined from Phar Rangers this season, fluffed several opportunities to extend Kotoko’s advantage in the game and his link up play together with ball control were terrible on the day.

Kotoko will now shift attention to their outstanding game against Great Olympics before they host Al Hilal Omdurman in the Caf Champions League first round.
