The Citizens former coach has sent his curriculum vitae to be considered for the vacant coaching role in Ghana
Former Manchester City assistant coach Domenec Torrent has officially applied for the role as Ghana’s senior national team head coach, according to a report by Asempa FM.
Torrent, who previously worked with Pep Guardiola, believes he is the right man for the job following the sacking of Charles Kwablah Akonnor.
Aside Torrent, four other experienced coaches have applied for the vacant role and they include former Lucien Favre who until recently was the head coach of Bundesliga side Borrusia Dortmund.
Also, Alain Giresse and Francesco Guidolin have also applied for the position.
Lucien Favre – Unattached
The Swiss tactician is a former Borussia Dortmund manager as he managed BVB from 2018 to 2020. During his spell as manager of Dortmund, he won the DFL-Supercup in 2019. The 63-year-old has also managed Swiss sides FC Zurich, FC Servette, Hertha Berlin, OGC Nice, and Borussia Monchengladbach.
2. Domènec Torrent – Unattached
A long-term assistant for Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. Torrent, 59, has worked twice as the assistant manager of Barcelona during the era of Guardiola. He continued to deputize for Pep when he moved to Bayern Munich in 2013 and spent the entire 3 year period with him in Bavaria. The former midfielder also worked with Pep as an assistant for Pep at Manchester City between 2016 and 2018 until he was moved to take over New York City FC for one season before he joined Brazilian side Flamengo.
3. Alain Giresse – Unattached
He is a 69-year-old French gaffer. Giresse has been in charge of Toulouse and the Georgian national team, among others. Giresse worked as the head coach of the Gabon national football team and was named a few months after the 2010 African Cup of Nations the Mali national football team manager. He was the coach of the Senegal national football team from 2013 to January 2015. On 7 September 2017, Giresse resigned as manager of the Mali national football team. In December 2017 he was linked with the vacant Benin national team manager’s job. In April 2018 he was one of 77 applicants for the vacant Cameroon national team job. On 13 December 2018, Giresse became the manager of Tunisia. He left the role in August 2019.
4. Francesco Guidolin – Unattached
The Italian midfielder is a former manager of Swansea City where he worked with Andre Ayew. The 65-year-old also managed former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah when he joined Udinese in 1999. Some of the clubs he has managed include Palermo, Genoa, Atalanta, and Parma
