The Ligurians succumbed to a 1-0 home defeat against Frosinone but still made history as they’ve booked their place in next season’s Serie A
Ghanaian striker Emmanuel Gyasi has helped Spezia Calcio to book a place in 2020-21 Serie A season for the first time in the club’s history despite losing 1-0 to Frosinone at home in the second leg of the Serie B promotion play-off final on Thursday.
After winning the first leg 1-0 on Sunday thanks to Emmanuel Gyasi’s strike, they were started the return fixture at Stadio Alberto Picco on a slow pace despite Andrea Beghetto hitting Frosinone’s post by the 12th minute.
Frosinone took the lead after the break after Andrija Novakovich and Camillo Ciano combined to a long pass from goalkeeper Francesco Bardi to set up Marcus Rohden on 61st minute.
However, Spezia goalkeeper Simone Scuffet made some good saves to keep the scores at 1-0 as Frosinone made several dangerous moves into his his box as they searched for another goal to kill the game.
Gyasi, who is on the radar of Black Stars coach C.K Akonnor, was replaced by the 73rd minute with G. Mastinu and despite Spezia losing the game, they have secured a place in the Serie A since they finished (third) above Frosinone (eighth) on the league log in the regular season.
Spezia have joined Benevento and Crotone as the three clubs from the Serie B to secure promotion.
