Egypt 2-2 Ghana: Kudus’ brace on Afcon debut hands Ghana a lifeline

The Black Stars threw away the chance to pick their first win at the Afcon as they now have to win their last game in order to stand a chance of qualifying

Ghana shared the spoils 2-2 with Egypt in the second game of Group B of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Abidjan on Thursday.

Kudus broke the deadlock for Ghana deep in first half additional time after the West Ham United star sent in a powerful shot.

After the break, Egypt drew level following a mistake from Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams by the 69th minute. Inaki gave a terrible back pass to Ofori which was intercepted by Omar Marmoush and he cleverly rounded the goalkeeper to score.

Kudus restored Ghana’s lead two minutes later after latching onto a pass from Odoi and fired past the goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy to send the traveling Ghanaian supporters into wild jubilations.

However, few minutes after Inaki was taken off for Osman Bukari, the latter made another schoolboy mistake to hand Egypt their second equaliser through Mostafa Mohammed.

On the stroke of full time, Ghana had the chance of snatching a late winner but substitute Baba Iddrissu headed the a corner kick from Jordan Ayew wide.

Ghana have now picked one point from two games and sit third on the log, two points behind Cape Verde who play Mozambique on Friday.

The Black Stars need to win their last game against Mozambique next week at all cost to progress to the next stage of the competition.
