The former Black Stars striker believes Ghana were not impressive in their opening game of the Afcon and would need to improve before they can make it out of their group
Ghana and Crawley Town striker Kwesi Appiah has insisted that the Black Stars were utterly poor in the 1-0 defeat to Morocco in the opening Group C game of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.
A late strike from Soufiane Boufal sealed the win for Morocco after both sides struggled to create clear cut opportunities.
According to Appiah, Ghana lost the game due to lack of concentration as Thomas Partey mistakenly played the ball into the feet of Boufal to score.
“Poor opening group game. No real danger from either side. A lot of room for improvement [for Ghana],” Appiah Tweeted.
“Morocco just nicked the win from a lapse of concentration in defence. Poor goal to conceded,” he added.
Ghana will play its second game against Gabon, who defeated Comoros 1-0 on opening day, and would need to avoid a defeat in order to stand a chance of qualifying.
Appiah was part of the Black Stars squad that reached the Afcon final in the 2015 before losing the title to Ivory Coast on penalties.
