Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Gyasi stole the headlines in Italy as he scored the winner when Spezia Calcio shocked AC Milan in a 2-1 victory at San Siro on Monday evening.
The 28-year-old was handed a starting role on the right wing and was impressive throughout the game as he tracked back most often to support right-back Kevin Amian.
Milan missed a penalty through Theo Hernandez by the 44th minute but Rafael Leão scored the opener a minute later following a defensive mixup.
After the break, Milan missed several opportunities and Spezia made them rued the missed chances.
Kevin Agudelo pulled even for Spezia on 64th minute after he combined with Danielle Verde.
Deep in additional time, Spezia striker Viktor Kovalenko latched on to a pass and initiated a quick counterattack as he raced into the Milan box.
Kovalenko held his composure and laid a pass to Gyasi who slotted in the ball to break the hearts of the Milan faithfuls.
Spezia have move three places up to 14th position with 22 points after the victory while Milan’s title challenge has been dealt a big blow as the sit second with 48 points, two points behind city rivals Inter Milan who have a game in hand.
