The youngster is reported to have said he is unwilling to play for the West African country since he is unsure of his future as he continues to eye a chance with Germany

German-born striker of Ghanaian descent Jamie Leweling has turned down the opportunity to represent Ghana on the international level despite being offered a golden opportunity.

The 19-year-old, who currently plies his trade with German Bundesliga 2 side Greuther Furth, was a surprise inclusion in Ghana’s 23-man squad named by head coach C.K Akonnor ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan.

Although, Ghana FA president Kurt Okraku defended the decision and revealed that it was the new technical director who recommended his inclusion, the youngster is not ready to play for Ghana despite it being the country of his biological father.

“The boy (Jamie Leweling) can’t honour the call up because it will be very complicated if he wants to switch back to represent Germany in any category of the national team if things don’t go well for him with Ghana,” a source told GHANAsoccernet.com

“Jamie won’t come to Ghana because after further explanation of issues surrounding his call-up, he has decided not to play for Ghana now due to several complications which are both sporting and personal,” the source added.

The decision means that Akonnor would have to call another player to fill the void and the star could fall on Spezia Calcio forward Emmanuel Gyasi who has played every single game this season in the Serie A.

Also, Ajax Amsterdam young striker Brain Brobbey as well as Elton Acolatse could be handed the opportunity since the former recently declared his readiness to play for Ghana.

The Black Stars will face Sudan in the first leg of the qualifiers on November 12 the Cape Coast Sports Stadium before they travel to Khartoum for the return fixture five days later.
