Current Black Stars players lack quality than previously-Otto Addo

The under fire coach has defended his side’s poor performances recently which has led to the possibility of missing out of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations

According to beleaguered Ghana coach Otto Addo, the current crop of players of Kudus Mohammed, Fatawu Issahaku, Thomas Partey and the others are not top quality players as compared to the era of Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan who won the hearts of many football fans across the world.

The Black Stars lost 2-0 to Sudan in 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the defeat means the Black Stars are likely to miss out of the tournament since they sit third of Group F with only two points, five points behind Sudan who occupy the last automatic qualification position with two games to go.

As a result, a section of Ghanaians believe Addo must be shown the exit but he insists the country is still stuck in the past glories.

“Sometimes I think people are a little stuck in the past and we always refer to the past,” Addo said.

“I can’t compare our players who have been playing Chelsea, Barcelona, Juventus, Inter Milan. We had all these kind of players. I can’t compare them with all due respect to our players now. Maybe they will get there but we are not there now,” he added.

Ghana will face Angola in Luanda next month in the penultimate game of the AFCON qualifiers before they host Miger in the last round of matches.
