The Ghanaian striker netted his first league goal of the season when Strasbourg came from behind to hammer the visitors on Sunday
Ghana striker Majeed Waris finally broke his duck after eleven games in Strasbourg’s 3-1 home win over Montpelier in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
After being snubbed by Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac ahead of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Waris has been playing very well at club side.
Montpelier took the lead in the game by the 11th minute through Florent Mollet after he connected a pass from Mihallo Ristic.
However, the visitors were reduced to ten men after the break after Elye Wahiwas shown a straight red card.
Waris took advantage of the numerical advantage and levelled the score for Strasbourg by 77th minute. The Ghanaian latched onto a pass from A. Thomasson and fired past Montpelier goalkeeper Jonas Omlin in the first post.
With six minutes remaining, Thomasson shot Strasbourg ahead with a fine finish before Kevin Gameiro wrapped up the victory with a late finish on 88th minute for the hosts.
Strasbourg have now moved to seventh on the Ligue 1 log with 32 points, 18 points behind leaders PSG.
