Ghana Premier League television right holders StarTimes have issued a stern warning to media outlets in the country against unlawful broadcasting of Ghana Premier League matches.
On Saturday, November 14 2020, the 2020/21 top-flight kicked off and continued on the following day with interesting fixtures.
Several radio stations including Aseda FM, Silver FM and online (social media) outlets were caught broadcasting the live game between Asante Kotoko and Eleven Wonders live on their social media platforms.
“StarTimes is by this communique calling on all television stations, online portals and individuals to desist and abstain from the unlicensed broadcast of the Ghana Premier League,” a company’s statement read.
“As the official broadcaster of the elite Ghana Football League, we hold exclusive rights to the airing of the content on Television and OTT (Live Streaming) including but not limited to Facebook and YouTube.
StarTimes together with the GFA will take string and active measures towards the enforcement of the copyright and will pursue legal actions (criminal and civil) against any media house ,journalist, individual, football club or online portals who supply unauthorized footage via social media including YouTube, Facebook, etc through mobile phones from the various media centres or from the StarTimes decoder.
“Silver FM, Aseda FM, Stade Afrique and Najoe Sounds which illegally broadcasted and shared the Asante Kotoko and Techiman Eleven Wonders game on Sunday wit their Facebook accounts will receive law suits from our legal team and have their accounts blocked by Facebook,” the statement added.
