The Porcupines were initially expected in Tamale this weekend to play a coronation match with the Giants of the North but discussions could not end on good note
Real Tamale United were billed to face Asante Kotoko in a Coronation match at the Alui Mahama Sports Stadium on Sunday but the discussions fell through in the eleventh hour, AshesGyamera.com can confirm.
The Giants of the North gained qualification to play in next season’s Ghana Premier League after winning Zone One of Division One League ahead of Bofoakwa Tano on final day thanks to superior head-to-head advantage and wanted to face Kotoko in front of their supporters to celebrate the occasion.
However, with Kotoko’s season over since they were eliminated from the FA Cup quarterfinals by Berekum Chelsea, the club’s top hierarchy insisted that it is impossible to assemble their players for the game because they have already been given the opportunity to go on break.
In spite of this, RTU still pushed Kotoko to assemble players for the game but after being told the cost involved, they had to back down and settle on city rivals Steadfast.
RTU are making a comeback to the top-flight after seven years in hiatus.
