The Porcupine Warriors stepped up their game in Dawu as they pipped the Royals to end their three-game winless streak
Asante Kotoko defeated Legon Cities 2-1 on matchday nine of Ghana Premier League at the Theater of Dreams in Dawu on Sunday.
After coming under pressure following three winless games, Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum Narteh made several changes in his squad that faced Legon with Fabiola Gama dropping to the bench.
Also, midfielder Richard Boadu ‘Agadas’ was left out of the squad due to suspension and his place was taken up by Mudasiru Salifu whoa was also retuning from suspension.
After a slow start to the game due to the poor state of the pitch at Dawu, Kotoko took charge of the possession and began to ask questions in the hosts’ goal area.
Cameroonian striker Etuoga Mbella Frank Thierry shot Kotoko ahead by the 28th minute after latching onto a flick by his countryman George Mfegue Rodrigues.
However, the lead last only four minutes as Legon pulled even following a poor goalkeeping by Razak Abalora. Ahmed Rahman headed in a cross to shut the vociferous away fans.
However, after the break, Etuoga Mbella scored another goal by the 77th minute after he connected a tailor-measured cross from Stephen Amankonah to send the travelling supporters into a wild jubilation.
The goal means that Etuoga has now scored three goals in three games for Kotoko.
