The Portuguese manager is expected to arrive in the country in the coming days after reports suggest that he has been told to come and continue his job
Asante Kotoko head coach Mariano Baretto will arrive in Ghana in the coming days to begin pre-season with the club, according to a report filed by Kessben FM.
The 64-year-old, who signed a one-and-a-half-year deal in April, left the country last month after failing to guide Kotoko to win a major trophy last season.
Although reports suggested that Kotoko were ready to mutually terminate his contract, Baretto looks set to have another opportunity to prove himself.
The coach was recently having bad blood between him and chief executive officer Nana Nana Yaw Amponsah which even led to Baretto blocking phone calls and messages coming from Amponsah.
However, board chairman Opanin Kwame Kyei is believed to have spoken to the Portuguese to return to the country as the club has barely six weeks to prepare for the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.
Kotoko were closing in on WAFA coach Prosper Ogum Narteh as the replacement for Baretto but the board believes it will be inappropriate to sack the head coach and pay huge compensations to him when they can allow him to continue with his work.
Baretto is expected to arrive in time and take charge of the club’s recruitment of new players for the new season. So far, Kotoko have been able to sign only midfielder Richmond Lamptey from Inter Allies.
