Ghana’s first Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for the people of Bekwai Constituency, Osei Owusu popularly known Joe Wise has made a damming suggestion to the government on how to deal with illegal mining also known as Galamsey in the country.
According to the diplomat, several people have been spotted still destroying lands in their quest to find riches despite the nationwide ban on such activities and insists, culprits must be shot to serve as a deterrent to other perpetrators.
“The other time I said we should shoot people and people were not happy with that,” Joe Wise told Starr FM.
[But] I still think that the way to deal with recalcitrant people is not to use the regular law system,” he said.
“Many of them are complicit. They hide the perpetrators in the afternoon and they go in the night to go and destroy the water bodies,” he added.
Galamsey had until recently, destroyed several lands and waters bodies leaving many inhabitants in central, western and some parts of Ashanti region without potable drinking water.
