Ghanaian 100 meters runner Benjamin Azamati failed to win a medal for his country once again after coming fourth in the 2022 Commonwealth Games ongoing in Birmingham, UK.
The 24-year-old finished fourth in the Men’s final on Tuesday with a time of 10:16, missing the Bronze medal by 0.02 second as Yupen Abykoon narrowly picked the medal.
“I admit I have problems with poor start and it’s something that has gotten into my head,” Azamati told AshesGyamera.com in an interview after the race.
“I think I need a psychologist. I will also speak to my doctors going forward and hope to resolve this.
“I’m not disappointed despite failing to grab a medal. This is 100 metres and every microsecond counts so I will have to work hard,” he added.
Azamati also heaped praise on Kenyan superstar Ferdinand Omanyala who won the race and believes he is a motivation for the younger generation.
“Ferdinand Omanyala won the race and I can say he’s a great athlete. It always feel good to race with such a talent. He has worked for it and I think it is a motivation for others to emulate,” he said.
In other related news, Sean Safo-Antwi failed in to reach the final of the 100 metres as he came fifth in Heat 2 with a time of 10:38.
Meanwhile, Ghana is assured of two medals as boxers Joseph Commey and Abdul Omar Wahib have reached the semifinals of Featherweight and Light Welterweight division respectively.
The duo has automatically won a bronze medal but can go for gold or silver should they defeat their opponents in the semifinals on Thursday.
