Despite concerns over the midfielder’s fitness for Saturday’s meeting, the Fifa / Caf Liaison Team official is optimistic about his availability

Fifa / Caf Liaison Team director of communications Dan Kwaku Yeboah has denied reports that Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah will not play a part in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya after picking up an injury while training with his teammates in Ethiopia on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old missed the first training session on Tuesday but arrived on Wednesday from his base in Italy to catch up with the team.

However, he limped off the pitch during a session but Yeboah believes the former Juventus star will be ready for Saturday’s game.

“I don’t think the situation is scary as reported in the local media. Ghanaians must remain calm since it is not true that Kwadwo Asamoah has been ruled out of the game,” Yeboah told Goal.

“He arrived this morning from Italy and after training with his teammates, he took precaution to sit out when the session was about to end since he picked up a knock in his last game with Inter.

“He hasn’t been ruled out by the medical team but it was necessary for him to rest after several minutes on the pitch. I believe he will be ready for the game on Saturday and help Ghana to record a win,” he added.

Ghana top Group F with three points while Kenya are third with no point.
